The work-horse of my 120 gallon system
| Installation and Operation |
I know a lot of folks look past mag-drives for returns on larger systems, but I've been using this for a while on my 120 gallon display. I don't personally think that a high return flow rate benefits the system, and I've been very satisfied with this pump for my return. I even have it flowing through a chiller before it goes through the overflow. It's a great pump that performs well.
|
| Performance vs. Expectations |
spot on performance per the expectations. Danner does a good job of describing flow rate vs. head loss, and I've found this pump to meet those numbers accurately. It comes on when powered up and I've never had it shut down on me, so no complaints. I've also used this on a skimmer (EV120), and it did very well with that as well.
|
| Value for money |
Maybe a bit expensive when considering flow rate vs cost, but it is very reliable and I have no regrets purchasing this pump. It has worked consistently and has a great warranty, so overall the value of this product is really good.
|
| Customer Support |
As I've mentioned on other mag-drive reviews, Danner has been very responsive to any warranty or information requests that I've had. Having owned over 10 danner pumps throughout the years, it's great to know that they stand behind the products. I would never hesitate buying from this manufacturer.

Great pump with low heat and no noise that I've noticed, this pump doesnt draw excessive power and works well in submersed applications. This pump has always operated as expected, having never shut down on me in the past and firing up quickly when powered.

| Didn't like |
About the only negative thing I have to say about the danner line is that, though they're sometimes advertised as internal/external pumps, they are really best suited to internal applications. They have a tendency to leak when used external (though I have done so in the past).

Another great return.
| Installation and Operation |
Simple to install you may have some plumbing to do but the pump is ready to go out of the box.
For most 90g and under tank this makes a great almost perfect return pump. just a little under 550 gph at 5 feet heat is under the commonly rated 600 gph overfond. Super quiet and efficient but they do tend to put off some heat. I do like that fact that they can be run out of the tank externally.

These pumps are workhorses. I wanted a pump that I could just let run and never worry about. I got that for sure I never regretted getting this pump. I never had a heat issue with this pump either and I always ran it in sump.

Mag 7- Good Investment
| General |
Very well made pump; just be careful when taking them apart to do maintenance and the pump will last you a very long time.
This pump is also a good choice for skimmers and chillers. |
| Liked about it |
Nicely made return pump for fresh or salt water. Quiet running, easy to operate, no moving parts (other than impeller), and they do not take up a lot of room in your sump. Heat output is minimal compared to other pumps. I have run them internally and externally in my set-ups for a number of years now on my salt water tanks. I also have not met anyone locally that had one just stop working, they are built tough.

There are only two parts I do not like about the pump. First is the cover for the impeller. It is a nice design but, I would like to see them made of a stronger material as I tend to break them and have to order new ones. The second is the screw threads. If you over tighten them they strip easily or break off the pump.
