Saved my fish's life featured

Installation and Operation The instalation was absolutely cake. I am running it with a maxi jet 400 with a an inline ball valve installed in the 1/2 inch inlet tubing. I got black uv tubing from dr foster and smith. For the return i used 5/8 tubing. There is a great fitting that comes with the sterilizer that allows you to use either 5/8" or 1/2" tubing. I slowed down my flow in order to kill absolutely everything.

Performance vs. Expectations Performance is amazing! I am just starting in this hobby and I had ordered a small tank bred Amphiprion Ocellaris from liveaquaria. Unfortunately my Quarrantine tank was not fully cycled and this fish came down with the "white poop" disease. As I learned from this forum white poop means either an internal parasite or an internal bacterial infection. I thought that putting it in the display where I had no nh4,no2 or no3 woudl make it better. Really I had no idea what was going on at this point. I thought the fish was simply depressed. So I went to the LFS and bought another one. It was really healthy and very bright in coloration. They paired instantly and efter three days they both were very very sick. Because the other fish showed the symptoms so soon that should have been a dead giveaway for a bacterial infection. Since it was a new fish and I was such a novice thought that it had to be an internal parasite. That logic is alright for fish harvested from the ocean, tank bred fish however are not really exposed to a lot of different marine bacteria so shipping stress supresses their immune system and bam, once they encounter the bacteria they get sick. Instead of installing my UV sterilizer immediately which I had purchased in a panic, I turned everything off except my cpr aquafuge and dosed my tank with Prazipro at double the recommended dosage because I thought my fish had roundworms or tapeworms. Three days later I woke up and found my Liveaquaria clown halfway in my aqueon circulation pump.At that point I know something was wrong and it wasn't a parasite. I quickly ran the Coralife Turbo Twist at lower that 55 gph. I re-filled my skimmer and changed out my gfo and carbon and restarted everything. After a few hours my second fish was up and about. And now four days later he is amazing!!!! Eating everything, swimming around. Not sick at all. This Sterilizer Saved His LIFE!!! Hands down the best purchase I made for my fish! Great for fish only tanks. Once my corals come in I will run it during the day. And when my sump is installed I will run it in my sump.

Value for money This is worth every penny becuase it saved my second fishes life and would have saved the first one if I had ran it earlier. Remember to make sure flow is slow enough. There is a chart that is available on most sites when you purchase the sterilizer. Dr. Foster and Smith has a good chart. And also make sure you don't put a valve on the return side of the sterilizer since that will cause pressure build up within the unit. Also, elevation change will slow down flow as well.

Customer Support I have not dealt with the company.

Liked about it I like the build quality.
I like the tubing adapters.
I like that it has an indicator light that tells you it is working.
I liked that it helped my clownfish recover from it's internal bacterial infection.

Didn't like Because I do not have a sump yet, in order to slow down flow I have it sitting on the ground with a 4 ft elevation difference in order to slow down flow even more. The problem is I have to run it all the time now since water will pool in the unit if I just turn it off. I do not want this to happen since it may create stagnant water that will be hypoxic and cause h2s gas buildup and bad bacteria. Eventually when I get a sump I will turn my setup upside down with the sterilizer located above my sump so that the water drains out of the unit and into the sump once the timer turns the sterilizer off.

Great little sterilizer featured

Installation and Operation Extremely easy to install. I am the world's worst at getting a nonleak line going. However, wwiht the barbs and a few clamps this sterilizer was on and leak free.

Performance vs. Expectations I had been battling a diatom and algae bloom for weeks before I hooked this sterilizer up. It was impossible at times to see my fish or even the back glass of my tank. After one day of use my tank was almost back to normal. The only difference was seeing end to end. After another day my tank is crystaal clear. There is no algae or diatoms in sight.

Value for money Compared to the other sterilizers using the same wattage it is pretty competitive on price. However, for the job it does I would not suggest any other over it.

Customer Support I did not have to deal with any customer support.

Liked about it I loved how easy it was to get set up. The instructions where very easy to read and follow. The sterilizer also is able to either be mounted on the edge of the tank or it comes with brackets whqat are extremely easy to attach underneath your tank, this is what I did. There is nothing about the sterilizer that I do not like.

Didn't like The only thing that could be different is the well nothing.

Does a good job featured

Installation and Operation The uv sterilizer came well packed. After reading the instructions everything was pretty much a basic installation. The instruction book really didnt break down all the options for this unit..I feel it's a pain to maintain due to having to disconnect one of the lines and have to unscrew the canister to clean..the operation of it is basic I run mine 24/7.. I clean it every few months it does not seem to get dirty..

Performance vs. Expectations I honestly can't answer that. I didn't have an algae issue before I installed the unit. I also never had a sick fish. Now the water clarity I honesty do not notice a difference. Now it does say that different gph (gallons per hour) will do different things.. So I have it only running for parasites..

Value for money Yes only because it gives you a piece of mind that your likeliness of you fish catching a parasite is less. Now I have nothing to compare this to, due to this is my first uv sterilizer..

Customer Support I never contacted the company due to all my questions were able to be answered on the web..

Liked about it I liked that it one one end you could see if the bulb was lit that way I knew it was on. I don't have to many likes because I don't notice any difference in my tank.

Didn't like If I were capable of changing a few things one would be a way to know when the bulb is going bad like an indicator of some sort. I would also like a quick disconnect for the hose line or something different so when taking it apart to clean or change the bulb it would be less work..cause when you are working it tight coorters like my self every little but helps..

Loved It! featured

Installation and Operation Easy to install. The directions book that came with it was clear, and had pictures of suggested setup, as well as a chart to show flow rates vs. what will be killed. Overall one of the better instruction booklets I've used in this hobby. I would suggest putting it in-line rather than hanging it on the back of the tank, because when

I originally installed it it was difficult having the pump in the tank, plus all the hoses running out and in the tank properly. Once I moved the Sterilizer off the back of the tank it improved the clutter, and then when I moved to a sump and ran it in-line with the return pump it again improved clutter of hoses in the tank, by being able to completely removing them.

Performance vs. Expectations I was told when purchasing that it would help make my water clearer. The difference between before and after install was astonishing. My water was noticeably clearer, making it pretty much crystal clear. I was impressed enough with this unit, when I upgraded tanks I also upgraded to the 12x.

Value for money It seemed a little expensive initially, however before install I had lost multiple fish to parasites, however after install I have yet to loose another one due to parasites or infection. By the elimination of fatalities of new fish I feel it has paid for itself multiple times over.

Customer Support AWSOME! I had the sterilizer for about 2 years and cleaned it multiple times, when I pulled it apart the glass flask that covers the bulb had cracked open at some point. This caused the bulb capsule to flood, and its connectors to corrode and the bulb to blow. When I contacted Coralife/Oceanic Systems they responded asking for my mailing address and shipped out a replacement for the glass ASAP. I received the new piece within a week of contacting them (its been a while so I can't remember the actual time frame between contact and delivery), and it has been in operation ever since.

Overall the customer support was amazing, in my opinion.

Liked about it - Clear setup instructions with pictures
- Easy install
- Multiple install options
- "Window" to see if bulb is on or off
- Clear chart to show flow-rate vs. what it will kill
- Easy to clean & replace bulbs
- Replacement bulbs come with new gaskets, helping with preventative maintenance w/ gaskets on unit.
- Customer service was fast and awesome!

Didn't like - "Window" to see if bulb is on/off could be located elsewhere, since its on the bottom and the only way to easily see it is to have it laying on its side so you can look at it, or close enough to a surface for it to light it up/reflect the light.
- The glass flask that protects the bulb from the water is really thin, it could use to be thicker to prevent cracking and breaking.
- The only fittings in the kit/for the unit are for flexible tubing only, I would have likes to see an option for hard-lines

love it!

Installation and Operation The instructions that came with it were very detailed and had every part explained on where to put it.

Performance vs. Expectations As long as you get the correct flow, then it will do work! My glass is kept much cleaner thanks to this! Some say not to get a UV, but I have yet to find a reason NOT to get one! This was really well designed! The twist around the bulb ads a long period of contact to UV. You can even position the outtake nozzle so that it accommodates your set up!

Value for money This was a Christmas present one year, so I did not buy it.... But if I had bought it, then I wouldn't have had any regrets.

Customer Support N/A

Liked about it twist around bulb
adjustable nozzle
adapters to accommodate 2 different sizes of hose
small and compact
easy to change out bulb
has a UV protected clear panel on bottom so you know if the bulb is on or not

Didn't like yet to find anything wrong!

small and compact

Installation and Operation Instructions is very clear, this is good because I have never used an external uv before. You just need to make sure all hoses are secured. It has a light telling you that the device is working. nice!

Performance vs. Expectations It makes the water clean and clear, I just clean the glass every now and then. Compare to the tank I have in the office which does not an uv, I have to clean the glass 2-3 days which is painful, plus, no one is helping.. :(

Make sure the water go through it not too fast, I hook it up with chiller.

Value for money worth the money for its size

Customer Support never had one

Liked about it very compact and it tells you if the bulb is working or not

Didn't like dont understand why the outtake and intake are pointing to different direction....

Definitly worth the money

Installation and Operation Very easy to install and maintain. The only thing you have to watch is that you don't distort the O-rings when you put the hoses on. Or it will leak.

Performance vs. Expectations It has performed even better that I thought it would. For example 1 time I was noticing I was having to clean my glass a lot more than normal. So I started checking my equipment. And the only thing that was wrong was my UV bulb had blown. So I got a new bulb and it was back to normal in a day or 2.

Value for money I think its a great product for the money.

Liked about it The price was good. Easy to set up. And it works great.

Didn't like The only7 thing that could make it better is if it came with a small power head.
