Searched X-10 Pro Powerline Interface Module in Reviews

I would not run a reef tank with these. featured

Installation and Operation When I was choosing Aquarium controllers I chose Neptune Systems Aqua Controller II mostly because of it's X-10 capabilities.
Sounds great in theory but in reality these products are just too unreliable for critical parts of the aquarium.

This particular module the main control interface. That part that actually transmits the signals through your homes wiring.
There really is nothing to install. Simply plug this module into any outlet and plug the standard phone live from the module to your X-10 controller.

Be aware that due to live noise the other modules controlled can be very unreliable. That being said I would never suggest that anyone use them to control anything critical in their aquarium.

I had no problem with the operation of this control module it's all the other modules that did not get the signal sent from this one due to live noise.

Performance vs. Expectations I had very high expectations for X-10 going in to it.
I though I was going to be able to control me entire aquarium and then some with these. My bubble was quickly burst when my lights were coming on when they should have been going off or (because I had each ballast on one) some light would come on then when those go off the other would come one.

These just are not reliable.
I do still use them in my home but not at all reef related.

Value for money They are cheap! Look on eBay you can find them for just a few bucks and even retail they are usually about $7.
Anything over that I would not consider.

Customer Support I never need any support with this product.

Liked about it Convenience of being able to turn anything on or off in your house automatically.
Very simple to setup and control you can have man of them hooked up at any time and control anything in your home (with optional equipment)
Cost at about $7 online they are very cheap and for the most part will serve their purpose.

Didn't like I really did not like the unreliability of these products and quickly learned to not trust them for reef applications. I do still use them around the house.

inexpensive, better than timers featured

Installation and Operation These work well with other control hardware (Neptune systems products), but it's important to eliminate any noise in the lines between this, the X10 relay boxes, and the source signal. Can be inconsistent if there's possible noise on the lines, and therefore I don't use them for critical hardware.

Performance vs. Expectations Due to cost, I didnt have a high performance expectation. I wouldnt say I was overwhelmed by their quality, but they do well enough. Because home power lines, which are the backbone of the signal processing for these products, are so noisy it's common for signals to be lost between this interface module and the control modules.

Value for money If you're paying a few dollars, which you can do for these new on auction sites, then these have a great value. If you're paying more than $10 I would not consider these devices.

Liked about it These items can be had very cheaply, and they give a lot more variability compared to simple on/off timers when used with a programmable controller. I do have probably a dozen control modules one one of these throughout my system, and they do work well once established. They're very simple to install and don't require much wiring.

Didn't like So as previously noted, these can be inconsistent if not on the same dedicated, filtered power source, and you may also find that the signals have a pretty good lag between initial sending and state change on the control module.
