X-10 Great for the home un-reliable for the reef tank. featured

Installation and Operation When I was choosing Aquarium controllers I chose Neptune Systems Aqua Controller II mostly because of it's X-10 capabilities.
Sounds great on theory but in reality these products are just too unreliable for critical parts of the aquarium.

This particular module the a non-grounded "lamp" module. called a lamp module because it ment to power low wattage household lams, radios, etc..

On this reef tank I used this type of module for fans, and my refugium lights. And like the other reviewer I too controlled house hold lights and Christmas light with this module through My aquarium controller.

There is some times a delay in switching and if the unit misses the signal all together it will be out of sequence until it either missed a signal again out you fix it. What I mean by this is that is the module is off and it misses the signal to turn on it will stay off. Then when the signal comes that should be turning it off it will turn on. It's a toggling signal not a on or off signal.

The main cause of this is live noise caused by heavy duty appliances like an over, dryer refrigerator or halide lights. There are filters available but they are not that practice.

Performance vs. Expectations Honestly I wen in to this all gung ho and quickly became disappointed.
I though I was going to able to run my entire reef tank with these guys.
Quickly I learned they they are just not reliable enough for anything critical.

Value for money Cost at about $7 online they are very cheap and for the most part will serve their purpose.

Customer Support I never need any support with this product.

Liked about it Convenience of being able to turn anything on or off in your house automatically.
Very simple to setup and control you can have man of them hooked up at any time and control anything in your home (with optional equipment)

Didn't like I really did not like the unreliability of these products and quickly learned to not trust them for reef applications. I do still use them around the house.

a good addition for control featured

Installation and Operation I use this in combination with my AC3 and DC8 control hardware. While this is a cheap addition to that setup, it's not terribly consistent and they tend to lag compared to the other hardware. I do use them for non-critical hardware control, and it's nice to use them for other things around the house as well. I've used them for christmas lights or just lamps when we're out of town, and it interfaces well with the Neptune products.

Performance vs. Expectations Adequate. As already mentioned, they don't always change state immediately, and there were a few instances of completely missing the signal, but generally they perform well. Once established, I found that I was more able to rely on them.

Value for money These are pretty cheap, especially if purchased on auction sites (where they can be found new). You can use these for pennies on the dollar compared to more dedicated control hardware from companies like Neptune and DA, but you certainly sacrifice some consistency and quality as a result.

Liked about it they cheap! Also, no wiring is required (it uses your house power lines for signal control), and they're very easy to set up. Really has a lot going for them.

Didn't like If you use these in a living space of the home, be warned that they employ relatively loud relays. You'll certainly here them click over. Other than that and the inconsistency issues they may have (as I've experienced), they're a good alternative for inexpensive control hardware.
