Good for new tanks.

I had one if these in my tank for the first 6 months or so. I was a nice piece of mind knowing that my ammonia levels were ok. The first six months of a new aquarium are the most critical and if you care going to have intermittent ammonia spikes it will be withing the first six months. I do not see much use for this product beyond the first six months. At that point you should have a well established bio filter than can easily handle any minor ammonia spikes. Cheap and effective makes this a great choice and an option to weekly testing for ammonia.

Simple to use and very effective. Simply attach to the inside of your tank and keep an eye one it.
This is very cheap and a great alternative to regular testing.
This appears to be accurate although I have not been able to test it.

Great Product...

The SeaChem Ammonia Alert is a great quick reference indicator to alert you if your ammonia levels get elevated. I've used these on several new start up tanks as they are going through their cycle to help keep an eye on the ammonia levels. They are very easy to use only requiring removal from the packing and sticking to the inside glass/acrylic with the provided suction cup.
