Honestly I cannot tell you the last time I tested ammonia.
after a few years a tank just kinda goes on auto pilot as far as ammonia and nitrite are concerned. They are consumed by bacteria before they become an issue unless there is a major dies of in your tank or an equipment malfunction. For that reason I keep one one had and from time to time if I sense a issue will test just for piece of mind. Very easy to use these are similar to many other ammonia test with the color scale cards.

Other Saliferts test seem to have closer increments on the readings.

Salifert Ammonia Test Kit - one of the must have's

I still recommend Salifert to any serious reefer who want's to track their tank parameters. |

Salifert falls in the middle of the pricing range in some kits and others either higher or lower. I have used Salifert for the last 8 yrs and I find them consistent and very reliable. I have 8 of the Salifert test kits that I use for my tank on a weekly to monthly basis to keep my tank in check.

Somewhat finicky to use, some of the reagents dry-up before the whole test kit is exhausted, hard to get a hold of the company Salifert
