not really worth the money
Comments
This kit is not really worth the money. Testing pH with a kit is always probe to error, and often they give results that are way off of the true aspect of the tank's pH. And the alkalinity test only provide a high-med-low determination, which doesn't give any insight into actual tank parameters. I say save your money and get real test kits for alkalinity (salifert, for example) and a pH probe if you want to know these parameters.

Not much good to say about this product, it doesn't really provide any useful information. It's cheap as far as test kits go, but what's the point of spending money on something that's not going to give you valuable results? The kit does come with everything needed to perform the tests, the instructions are clear, and the tests are easy to perform, but the results are pointless.

Color charts for pH are not very easy to read, I'd much prefer something that provides a digital readout (such as a probe). And the alkalinity scale is wholly useless, especially if you're hoping to take the data and make informed decisions about dosing alkalinity buffers. If you have a very simple reef tank, or a fish only tank, this may provide some very limited insight into your tank's water parameters, but generally I don't see any value in this kit.

Very Disappointing
Comments
This was my first purchase into the marine test kit world. I expected this test kit to at least give an end point value. To my distress this does not do that. The cost of the kit was overpriced and my expectation on the quality and reliability of this product was not met. I have had to replace it and it sits under my sink awaiting that magical time frame when I can feel comfortable putting out with the trash. Right now that feels to much like throwing my money away!

If you need only know wether the ph and alk are either high or low then this product is for you. It gives you a color scale that goes from low to good to high.

Generally I thought that this test kit was far to simplistic and might be good for a elementary class aquarium project to introduce students to the world of aquarium keeping.

Red Sea PH & Alkalinity test kit
Comments
This is not the most precise kit out on the market but it does give you fairly decent ballpark reading. I've been using this product to give me an idea as to when my DIY base rock will be ready for use in my aquarium.

The charts can be a little hard to read, as the colors are very hard to distinguish from one and another.
I wish it came with a syringe to file the water vial.

Not my favorite
General
When measuring pH, with this kit it is very hard to distinguish the difference between the 8.0 to 8.6 range. The colors on the chart are very similar.
Alk test is not very precise. More of a high, OK, low range result. |
