Comments This kit comes with a number of different tests. I definitely consider it entry level quality and the kits that it comes with are for the beginner. Included in the kit are a low fidelity pH/alkalinity test, and then an ammonia, nitrite, and nitrate test. The ammonia and nitrite test kits have little value in my opinion, as these are tests that are generally only performed a few times in the early stages of establishing a marine aquarium. This system comes with everything needed to perform multiple tests for measuring these chemical values.

Liked about it This kit does come with everything needed to perform the tests, and the instructions are clear and easy to follow. With 5 different tests, you do need to be certain that you're following the right specific instructions, but I found that easy to do as the instructions are quite clear. The tests are easy to perform and seem to provide consistent results.

Didn't like There are a couple of things I don't care about with this kit. First, the packaging drives me crazy. If you're going to set this up somewhere and leave it, then it's fine, but I like to throw everything back in the box and stick it in a drawer when I'm done with a test kit. This has to be reassembled in order to store it, and it's rather unnecessary. Second, I think the quality of these tests make them rather pointless. The pH and alkalinity tests provide very little information (pH test kits are notoriously error prone, and this alkalinity test provides just a high/med/low result). I never find any good reason to know ammonia and nitrite, so spending money on a kit for those paramaters is hard for me to justify (just waiting out the initial cycle is all that's needed... once that's done you'll probably never touch these test kits again). While the nitrate kit will probably get used up, I don't think there's value in spending this kind of money for 5 tests, 4 of which I wouldnt use.

It's ok for a beginner with a very tight budget

Comments This kit test for five basic test required when beginning a reef tank. the main reason I like the kit is because it is inexpensive and covers all the test you need to do when you first set up a tank like PH, Ammonia, Nitrite, and Nitrate. the other test that the kit covers are not worth using in my opinion.

Liked about it The instructions are clear and concise printed on the back of each color chart to the corresponding test. The bottles are clearly marked for each test. the color charts are fairly easy to read for the test listed above.

Didn't like the test for alk or hardness and phosphate do not test to the correct levels for a reef tank and these test should not be used for reef tanks in my opinion. the labeling colors on some of the test are the same and can be confused if one is not careful. after the initial start many of these test are not conducted by reef keepers and they are rarely used again.

Test kit not for the Novice

General This kit reminded me why I stopped testing my water. I was excited when I purchased the test kit and went to use it immediately only to find out that you need a chemist degree to figure it out. The color charts are easy to read but the results are a mystery, the kit does not tell you what the levels should be and what to do if it is high or low. It was like walking around in the dark. Mind you it does several test and some I understood but everyone that I have communicated with on the Forums or at the LFS have all stated the same thing; too difficult for even the experience hobbyist. A test kit should be simple for even the most begining novice and this kit is far from it. The price is very high and the frustration level with it exceeds the price. There are much better kits at a lower price. Very disappointed

Liked about it Includes just about every test that you would need

Didn't like Very difficult to use. Poor instructions and little Web support

Includes many kits!

General NH4, NO2 and NO3 are spot on.

I'd rather use a probe for a more accurate pH level.

The newest version of this kit offers numerical values on the Alkalinity card in units of Milli equaivalents per liter which is better than the old version which had Low, Normal and High

Remember that 2Meq/L = 5.6 dKH = 100 ppm CaCO3

Liked about it Nitrogen test kits spot on.

Didn't like No phosphate kit included?!!
The included buffer is a joke if your tank is larger than 60 gallons.

Test kits

General The Red Sea Marine Lab came with my 130D (New Red Sea tank) I like the kit better than the API (so far)
Still looking for quicker tests and less bottles .

Liked about it Test kit has 5ml syringe that really helps with testing .Test results are quick and easy .Color charts are much easier to match up .(We all know they never match exactly ) This kit seems much closer

Didn't like Mini syringe is very hard to work with. Drawing 1ml exactly into "final position" is tough and frustrating
