This is a relatively complicated test kit that doesn't really provide a lot of useful information. Ammonia is generally only tested in the early life of an aquarium, and to be honest you don't have to test it at all if you know how to set up a tank and monitor proper livestock additions. That said, buying a test kit to provide detailed information that you don't need doesnt make a lot of sense to me. This kit does work, and it comes with everything needed to perform many tests, but the overhead of doing so seems unnecessary.

The instructions for this test are easily discerned and the ability to perform many repeatable tests is easy. The markings on the vial is clear, and everything is properly labeled. Reading the color card is generally easy, a bit easier than other red sea kits in my experience. The kit is cheap and readily available, as almost all fish stores (even chains) are going to have these kits on hand.

For the information provided, there's a lot of overhead to perform the test. It requires 11 drops of one reagent and 4 of another. While not hard to perform, in my opinion knowing the levels of ammonia is not very useful' simply knowing it's presence is enough information to make decisions. As a result, I would prefer to use a test strip to get this information and not labor over a test.

No, it doesn't perform as advertised! My tank has been cycling for 7 weeks now. I can never get the ammonia to 0. It always shows a shade of green (Around 0.5 to 1.0). I went up to my LFS and he told me he also never reached 0 Ammonia with Red Sea. I did a Google search (Redsea ammonia test not registering yellow) and the first result was a forum with people having the same issue. My Aquarium has been cycled but because I put my faith in Redsea I've been prolonging my aquarium enjoyment! I've gone through 2 Redsea test kits as I am cycling 2 large aquariums! What a waist of money!

If the tests don't work correctly, what is there to like about it? It's garbage! Don't waist your money with Red Sea, now I question all my Redsea test kits! So pissed!
