Accurate and easy pH test
| Comments |
The Instant Ocean pH test is a good value giving accurate pH values. The test is easy to use. Empty an individual pre-measured packet into the water sample in the test container with a color indicator scale fixed to its side. Snap on the cap, shake gently, and read the closest color match in indirect daylight. I find it easier to use and read and more accurate than the Tetra Laborett saltwater pH test. (Be sure to measure pH at a consistent time of day on a standard lighting schedule for the most accurate results.) The pre-measured packets are sealed, stay fresh and contain the exact amount for testing.

The Instant Ocean test is easy to use with pre-measured packets. The test container has easy to read color matching to read results. The cost is low and the pH information valuable.

I would have liked the pH color scale to have been fixed in the test container. It is removable so other tests could be swapped in, but other tests have their own containers when purchased. The pH scale is logarithmic so small changes in pH values represent large difference in acid and base balance. Therefore I would prefer more colors to match for more detailed pH values. The easiest pH monitoring is done with a controller (but that method is much more expensive).

Is it accurate?

I got this test on sale or else I would have never purchased it.
It is a very simple test to perform. Simple fill the vial and the regent then shake and wait. you camera the color to a legend like most PH test but I do question the accuracy of these test. There is a chance to not get all the regent into the vial. In a test like this I prefer to just have a liquid dropper for the regent.
If you really want true accurate Ph measurement you need to get a Digital PH monitor with probe. Everything else is just a estimate.

It was an easy test to perform.
I got it cheap in sale but even the regular price is cheap.

I would question the results and I just did not like working with the powdered regent.

Ok if you can't afford a PH meter.

This test kit is really easy to use add water, add little package of crystals to water cap and shake, then color compare to find the PH level. The test kit was comparable to other lower end PH test kits on the market. when I compared this to my PH probe that had just been calibrated and test with a borax test to verify it accuracy I noticed the test kit was consistently lower by 2 tenth or so. this is not a big deal but it could be the difference of buffing unnecessarily. One good part about the test vial is that a plastic color chart slides in and out for easy cleaning, and, or changing the plastic color panel for different test.
also don't forget to check the expiration date when purchasing and make sure you not buying old test kits that may be more inaccurate.

Inexpensive, easy to use with just one step, easy to read plastic color chart contained in test tube.

Did not read the same as my PH probe and was consistently lower. Packets are not easy to open.
