Simple kit, but I prefer other brands featured

Comments Testing nitrate is important even for long term maintenance of a system. Coral doesnt tolerate high levels of nitrate (anything over 20ppm should be addressed for stony corals in particular). And seeing as how easily nitrate is imported into our tanks (excess food, fish wastes, inadequate filtration, poor source water), knowing what the levels in your tank are is an important piece of tank husbandry. API makes a pretty good test kit that may be a great solution for your application. I've used it before, and would happily do so again if other options werent available, but these days I tend towards the salifer version of a nitrate kit.

Liked about it This kit does have a very dynamic color chart, which makes changes in color very easy to distinguish. Other kits, even expensive ones, don't provide this level of difference. It is inexpensive and straight forward to use (if not more intricate than others... see below). The price is pretty good, but this is not my preferred kit.

Didn't like Compared to other brands of nitrate test kits, this is a more complicated test. It's not hard to perform, but there are more steps than other kits. It also requires the user to precisely follow the instructions lest you be subject to undue error (including shaking of test vials in specific orders, as well as a wait for final results).

Good Enough for what I need

Comments It does what I need. I have compared it to the Red Sea kit and this one is much easier to read. The RS kit takes longer and I still can't tell from their chart. This one is quite easy to compare the colors. It is a good value for the money. I don't know what could be a better brand.

Liked about it 1.Good color chart.
2. Easy to use.
3. Low cost.

Didn't like 1.The glass tubes are too fragile, after a few uses the vile breaks. Had to order extras.
2.The liquid leaks out of the ventilated cap when shaking.

Great and inexpensive test kits

General I use API kit regularly. They are cheap, quick and easy to use. To be safe I do also test with another higher quality tests just to keep a closer eye on my water parameters.

All in all for the proce and ease of use they are great tests!

Liked about it cheap
easy to use
clear consice instructions.

Didn't like they may not be as accurate as some of the higher end tests.

Liked about it Relatively easy to use
Fresh and Salt water in one kit
