If your'e getting started, this is a good test kit featured

Comments It's important to test for ammonia when your tank is first getting started (unless you are unbelievably patient!). This kit is good to have on hand for the first few months of a new tank. During the initial cycle, knowing whether or not you have the presence of ammonia is important to know when adding livestock is safe. This kit is easy to use and provides a decent range of ammonia measures. The instructions are relatively clear and they make it so that the color difference is pretty easy to notice. Seeing that ammonia won't be reintroduced past the initial cycle (without some sort of significant event), I do prefer buying these cheaper kits compared to some of the more "designer" names due to cost.

Liked about it These are a cheaper test kit, so for less critical measurements (including ammonia) I think these are a good choice. I don't generally test ammonia after the tank finishes cycling, so I don't see a lot of point in spending a lot of money on a kit that's going to give very precise results. The instructions on this product are clear and the test takes very little time to perform, so all in all this is a good kit.

Didn't like Nothing negative to say about this product for what it is, but I don't use it often and look at it as a one-time purchase for each tank that is set up. You can buy more expensive brands for this test, but I don't see any reason to do so.

Good and simple kit...

Comments I use all API kits for my testing. You get a lot of tests in one kit compared to other kits I have seen. Very simple to use and will give you a reading fairly quickly.

Liked about it Very easy to use. Fill to line with tank water, add drops and wait 5 minutes before comparing color to supplied chart. Hard to go wrong.

Didn't like I have heard they are not super accurate but compared to other kits I have used they seem to be on the money. My test tube looks like it has soap scum on it after several uses even after rinsing out after uses. Tough to clean tube.

Decent test kit

Comments I think that API kits are under rated. They are fairly accurate in my experience. I have used this Ammonia kit several times and have always gotten good results. And compared to other kits that cost several times more money I say these are just fine for most situations. Basically with Ammonia you are either looking for a reading or for it to be zero, because there shouldn't be any in a mature reef tank.

Liked about it Really good price, and they are very easy to use. And you can test both fresh and salt water with the same kit. Incase you want to test you RO/DI water like I do from time to time.

Didn't like I wish they gave you a measuring syringe for the water instead of just a line on the vial, because I would feel thats more accurate.

Great and inexpensive test kits

Comments Ammonia in the early stages of a aquarium is a problem for many reefers. They add livestock before the nitrogen cycle is complete. Testing for ammonia is quick and easy with API's test. The instruction are simple and easy to understand there is even a cheat sheet on the back of the color card.

I use API kit regularly. They are cheap, quick and easy to use. To be safe I do also test with another higher quality tests just to keep a closer eye on my water parameters.

All in all for the proce and ease of use they are great tests!

Liked about it cheap, they are super cheap and I keep them around just in case I run out of my regular.
easy to use
clear concise instructions.

Didn't like It can be hard to read this test. The color scale in very gradual.
They may not be as accurate as some of the higher end tests.

Excellent value here

General When it come to tests such as ammonia and nitrate, I feel that the API kit is more than adequate. In my opinion there is no reason to spend any more money than neccesary. You do not want any ammonia in the system and this test kit can tell you that.

Liked about it Fast and easy to use
Plenty of tests in one kit
Easy to decifer reuslts
