decent sand for seeding a tank

If you want to seed your tank with a little bit of live sand, this would be a good product. I don't like using a lot of live sand in almost all applications, so I wouldn't recommend this in bulk, but if you're buying one or two bags it's not a bad product. This west Caribbean sand has a good grain size of from 1.0mm to 2.0mm, so it's well suited for most sand sifting or burrowing fish.

This sand has a good color and provides good average grain size to work well and keep from being blown around in high flow. I like using this in my mixed reef tank with high flow (it's about the same size as the special grade dry sand).

The negatives of this sand is that it's rather expensive compared to dry sand, and it doesn't really provide much benefit. In the long term, a bed made of dry sand will become live in time. I generally find no value in paying considerably more for live sand, which often requires more to populate the tank if used exclusively (as the water weighs the sand down, making it more dense and requiring more to have the same coverage). I also don't like adding sand that could bring hitchhikers with it, and there is a risk of doing just that with this (or really any) live sand.

Definately Need This Stuff!!!!

It is great at helping keep algae levels down in your tank and at breaking down waste on the sand bed. I never have to stir or scrape off the top of it due to algae build up. Also great for copepode and other sand dwelling organisms (stars, snails, etc.)
