This substrate is pretty big in grain size, averaging from 2.5mm to 5.5mm in size. That's much closer to a crushed coral than a typical sand. This is a good product if you want something that large, but for most marine systems a smaller grained size is recommended.

Liked about it

This product is a good color and provides a nice natural look to the floor of your tank. It doesn't require a lot of rinsing and should be pretty much ready to go after a short rinse with tap water. It won't blow around, so if you have a really high flow rate in your tank this may be a good choice.

Didn't like

Nothing terribly negative about the product itself, although this bag size is on the small side. You may be disappointed with how much it will cover, so consider a larger bag if you have a lot of space to fill. Philosophically, I do not prefer using grain size this large, as it's more likely to trap wastes (which can break down and contribute to excessive nutrient issues). Unless you have a specific reason for using this product, I'd recommend something under a 2.0mm average grain size.

Visually appealing but high maintenance

General

An interesting top dressing to a sand bed for detail, especially for a lagoonal system. However the amount of detritus it traps means gently cleaning it with an eyedropper every week to keep it clean.
