Not recommended for reefs.

Comments High end reefers have found that keeping salinity around 35 ppt (1.0264 SG at 78 degrees) makes SPS corals grow faster and become deeper in color. A decade ago salt makers focused on SG 1.023 as a good number for fish only and reef tanks. Kent Salt mixes at 1.023 and if you increase the SG by using less water then the alk and Calcium become to high since the salt mixes at 450 ppt Ca and 10 dKh alk at 1.023 SG. This salt will do the job just fine, but it is not ideal for reef tanks with hard corals. Other salt mixes are designed to reach 35 ppt. You can find my tank online at: http://www.reefcentral.com/forums/showthread.php?t=2019225 to see that I know what I'm talking about and not just your average "Joe" ;)

Liked about it Availability at the time. Only salt available at my LFS.

Didn't like Mixed up to 35 ppt salinity, 450 ppt Ca, and 10 dKh for alkalinity, but I strive to keep my reef at 35 ppt so this salt forced me to lower my salinity slightly so as not to spike my calcium and alkalinity levels.

Simply impressive!!!!

Comments I have only used instant ocean and after being disappointed by them I desided to give Kent marine a try.. I actually feel it's better priced then most.. For the price of 49.99 ( I buy 200 gallon mix) you get 200 gallons instead of 160 gallon like most.. Simple easy directions like the others are.. If you ever have a chance to give it a try you should.. If you need higher levels of nutrients then this defiantly worth a shot..

Liked about it Loved that the calcium, dkh(alk), magnesium levels are higher than most other brands.. I don't have to dose as much when I first do a water change.. The time it takes for the salt to completely desolve is alot less than expected after using and hearing what others wait...

Didn't like The only thing I don't like is that it's more money to get it in a bucket than a box...

Use a higher quality salt for reef tanks.

Comments If you are going to build a reef tank that use a higher quality salt like seachem or coralife or tropic marin. I used this salt when I started my tank and my calcium and Alk were wayy to high (660ppm and 10.9dKH). I've sinced switched to Tropic Marin Pro and I couldnt be happier.

Liked about it Cheaper than the rest.

Didn't like Slow to dissolve (took 12 hours to dissolve the whole bag)
Doesnt get water parameters close to Natural Sea water
The bag isnt easily resealable.

Might be my new salt mix

Comments I was out of my regular brand of salt and so was the LFS. I asked what they would recommended as a substitute and Kent was their suggestion. I bought the 50g mix and I may be going back for more. Everything seems great. Mixes easily.

Liked about it I do like that most salt mixes come in a 50g sized bag
My corals and fish seem to like it as well
Mixes easily

Didn't like More expensive then my regular salt mix
