This is an easy fish to care for. In my opinion it's the easiest of the blennies. I have always found fish that have a diet primarily of algae to be a bit more difficult to care for. My tanks don't have very much algae naturally so I must add plenty to the tank for them. The Midas is an omnivore and requires meaty food. The algae in flake food like Formula 2 is plenty.
Most of the web sites that sell this fish list it as needing a 30 gallon tank minimum, but I really feel like a larger tank is in order. They do like their caves and holes in rocks, but are also pretty active swimmers. Not to mention they get 6" long. While some fish that have a potential length never reach it in captivity, my Midas easily did.
This is a peaceful fish with most tankmates. However, I would not put it with other blennies or with gobies as they will nip their fins and chase them around.

Beautiful fish, Watch out- THEY JUMP!

Blennard was a gorgeous golden 3.5" Golden Midas Blenny. Upon acclimation to the tank, he would usually be perched "watching" inside his live rock hole until feeding time when he golden eel-like body would come out and shine.My size fish seemed quite happy in my small 20 gallon tank. He aptly ate flake and frozen foods and was a lovely fish.
Unfortunately, I awoke to find Blennard dry as an anchovy stuck to the carpet. I had thought my two light fixtures flow pipes were covering the tank enough.
They were not. :(

-Beautiful golden color and azure blue eyes that really follow you.
-Eel like swimming body like the rest of the Blennies.
-Ate everything I fed.

-Thought that my entire bedroom was full of water just like the tank, Blennard was confused with his reality.
-Not an algae eater like some other Blennies.
-Maybe I got ripped off but a little spendy- $26.99

The Midas Touch

This fish is easy to care for. Reef safe and non aggresive. It grows at an average rate to 6" max. size. It needs a minimum of 30 gallon tank or larger. Plenty of rock work for cover and for perching on. They love little caves to hide in. When they enter their caves they go in backwards. I think larger tank is best due to its active swimming. Mine is swimming constantly in the water currents. They swim with a eel like motion. They require a meaty diet with a herbivore supplement.

Love its colors. Very bright yellow outline with a golden orange tone body. Blue eyes and and blueish color under its jaw with a lyre-shaped tail. Very active and stays out in the open.

A bulldozer some times he would push a coral that was close to his hole. I had one jump from the tank :(.

This is a great addition!

This is a great little fish. They have bright blue eye and will find a little spot that they will stick close to. As they become more comfortable they will come out more often and are really a delight to watch. No complaints about this one but they will not keep alage in control as some of the other blennys will. |
