Bad Bass!
| General |
I bought several chalk bass at the same time and added them to my 150 reef tank. I was told and have read these fish do better in groups. The fish did fine for a few months they all hung out together and everything seemed fine. Then I noticed they were pairing off as they became adults. once I bout an odd number that left one fish out. The other chalk bass harassed him continuously until his death. I figured well now they are in even numbers things should be fine. I was wrong they never stopped fighting. They should have had plenty of room and plenty of hiding spaces since I had 300lbs of live rock. They didn't stop fighting until all but one was dead. They also harassed any new fish I added to the tank not aggressively but they did let the new fish now they were there. I would not buy these fish again. |

peaceful fish
| Comments |
These are peaceful fish, and while I only had 1, I hear they do well in groups. This fish is almost too timid for it's own good, and may require some special attention to get it eating when first introduced in the tank. Not recommend for tanks with predatory fish (would probably be eaten by even a dwarf lionfish) or if there are crabs/snails that may take a liking to snacking on fish (such as arrow crabs).

A peaceful fish that's reef safe, it stays small and can be housed in most peaceful systems.

The only thing I don't like about this fish is how timid it is, often hiding, especially when larger fish are swimming around. It may do better in groups, but as mentioned, I only had one in my system.
