I do not consider this fish reef safe featured

Comments In terms of how it looks, this is one of my favorite damsels. It has a nice body shape, a good mix of colors, and delicate looking finage. It's nice soft colors hide a very aggressive disposition. This fish gets a max size of 5" which means it is large enough to bully plenty of other fish. I've seen them bully fish twice their size, they seem to know who will fight back and who won't.

My fish didn't seem to care much about hiding, as it was quite large it seemed to always be swimming around. Because of this I would recommend a 75 gallon tank or larger for this fish.

What finally caused me to trade this fish in was once it was mature it began to chase my shrimp around the tank. I am very fond of my shrimp and would not put up with this. On rare occasions it would nip soft coral polyps (completely off) if I didn't feed it on time.

Liked about it 1. Very nice coloration that can be quite bright.
2. Large size is striking.
3. Very hardy fish.

Didn't like 1. Aggressive fish.
2. Chases shrimp.
3. Nips soft corals (by nips, I mean eats).

Not a good choice

Comments It is very easy to care for. It grows pretty fast and is very active. It will eat anything and a 30 gallon tank is fine for one. They are VERY aggressive. Mine tries to steal food from the eel and bullied the puffer fish (who was twice his size) for a week. I had to constantly scare him with a net to get him to stop bullying the puffer.

Liked about it Easy to care for and have decent coloration. It is also very hardy. It has survived two eel attacks after it tried to steal the eels food.

Didn't like VERY VERY aggressive. But expected of damsels... And it is very bold and not smart. After being attacked by the eel twice for trying to steal the eel's food, he still tries to steal the food.

A beautiful little devil

Comments As with most all Damsel fish the blue fin is just as aggressive.
Not as bright and flash as the other blue damsels but still attractive in it's own way.
This is a small fish but is very territorial and aggressive to other fish regardless of their size. This fish is super cheap and a favorite for many new reef keeper. They soon re4alive that this fish may not be the best choice. Maybe in a very large tank with lots of room. or kept in a small tank with few other fish.

Liked about it Price, They are extremely cheap and affordable.
Damsels and pretty hardy and can live through the worst tank conditions.
Color, Not as bright and flashy as some other but unique in it's own way.

Didn't like Aggression, they fish are very aggressive and are always picking fights even with fish much bigger than them.
They are also near impossible to remove from your tank if you so choose.

Tank bullie...

Comments I bought two of these after cycling my tank. First 2 fish in the tank and I still have them. They are very hardy fish and will eat anything you give them. Very aggressive. They went after every fish I put into tank. They did settle down after awhile and all is well now but I'm pretty sure they think they own the tank and not me.

Liked about it Easy to take care of. Can live thru about any tank problem. Has never had ich like others in tank have gotten. Will eat all types of food.

Didn't like Aggressive. They will go after any fish that is put into tank after him. The colors that you see will change and fish will turn black.

Good starter fish

Comments Very easy fish to care for, especially for the money. Extremely aggressive, but does seem to calm down once it gets used to the new inhabitants. Turns a dark blue/black, similar to that of a niger trigger as an adult. Which I like(have a niger trigger as well). Had mine for about 5yrs abd it's only about 3 in. big, so doesnt get very big.

Liked about it Good starter fish, can live through just about anything, and not very expensive

Didn't like Very aggresive towards all other fish(but seems to calm some after awhile)
