great fish that requires lots of care featured

Comments ive owned an achilles before and mine survived quite well until i moved my tank (they do not respond well to this under normal circumstances). when i got him, i quarantined him for about 5 days. i acclimated him and after a while he schooled with my coral beauty angelfish. after 14 days of heavy treatment i replaced my carbon filtration and he seemed to be very happy. what youll find online is that they need a lot of space with good water quality and high water flow. what ive found is that you must obtain a healthy specimen and i wouldnt try it with out the Kick Ich, seeing as they will initially catch it and freshwater dips cause a lot of stress for both parties. buy it early so it can adjust without being picked on. feed high volumes of algae and greens with some frozen meaty food. water quality is vital and an aquascape containing caves and plenty of open water is key. if youve kept a blue hippo or something high maintenance before, you should be able to support an achilles but, for the sake of the fish and the species, wait until you're ready. they are very hard to keep and theres no reason to kill specimens just because youre not ready. in conclusion its a great fish, however, one of the most difficult fish to keep successfully due to its itch vulnerability and swimming space needed.

Good luck if you try to house one.

Liked about it -color
-attitude
-size (for big aquariums)

Didn't like -not hardy
-most likely will require itch treatment
-good luck if you are moving any time soon

Amazing fish, but very demanding

Comments This fish is very popular, but expensive and rather challenging. It must be kept as the only Acanthurus fish in your tank unless you have hundreds of gallons, as they're aggressive towards conspifics. It's better to buy juveniles to increase your success of proper acclimation, this fish will require a lot of swimming room. The one I had enjoyed sheet algae over any other type of food (including red, purple, and green seaweeds).

Liked about it Wonderful color, very active fish, definitely a showpiece.

Didn't like Expensive, aggressive towards other Acanthurus, need a lot of space.
