A challenge to acclimate, however they're a beatiful fish

Comments These tangs are not for the faint of heart; a challenge to acclimate with a tendency to get ich (or other parasites), I consider them very similar to the achilles and powder blue tang. A very similar fish, the Acanthurus japonicus (also known as the powder brown tang) tend to do a lot better in captivity. That said, if you're looking for a bit of a unique fish and are up to the challenge, the whitecheek may make a great addition to your tank. While not a very large Acanthurus species, they do still require a good size tank to thrive (say over 120 gallons), and they're not likely to tolerate similar fish (specifically other Acanthurus species).

Liked about it Striking colors and very active, a healthy specimen can make a great addition to your tank.

Didn't like These fish are challenging to acclimate to captivity, definitely not a fish for the beginner. These fish need great water conditions lest they become infected with parasites, they're sometimes better left in the ocean.

White Cheek Tang

Comments Very beautiful Surgeon fish. Known as the Gold Rim Tang and the White Cheek Tang. (Acanthurus nigricans). Often confused with the Powder Brown Tang. It has the same shape and behavior as the Powder Brown and the Powder blue. This fish has a purplish-blue body with a small white mark on the cheek between the mouth and under the eyes. It has yellow lines that run down the length of the body at the base of the dorsal and anal fins. The pectoral, anal, and dorsal fins are dark blue with blue highlights at the tip. Like all tangs they are aggresive towards each other especially with same likeness. Generally peacefully towards other fish. Very active swimmer and needs a minumum of 100 gallon tank. This fish will spend most of the day grazing rocks and glass for algae to eat. Will except meaty foods but must have marine seaweed and other algaes to thrive. With proper conditions and diet this fish will groq about 8-9". I recommend that this fish be quarantined before placing in the main tank. Initial stress from shipping and new tankmates can often cause an Marine Ich outbreak (Cryptocaryon irritans). Results mostly fatal.

Liked about it Loved its colors and its active nature. Swims the entire tank constantly. Assists greatly in keeping the rocks free of algae.

Didn't like Nothing to dislike. Gets Ich easily. I wish it was more compatible with others of its kind. Although if the tank is big enough and the fish are added together they can coexist rather well.
