Searched Red Sea Prizm Protein Skimmer in Reviews
good skimmer to start with but too much trouble down the line
| Installation and Operation |
the initial install was quite easy with only one problem: the pump wasnt pulling the water through the skimmer, after about 30 minutes of reading through the instructions i was ready to throw the thing out of the window but as a last resort i pulled the air intake tube out and put it on the 'closed' connector and hay presto problem solved. It didnt tell me to do this anywhere in the set up instructions, only when browsing through the troubleshooting at the back of the manual did i come across a little line that gave the info.

| Performance vs. Expectations |
after reading reviews myself i expected it to be 'ok' not fantastic, and as i predicted: i was right. The skimmer has done its job- just not that well, Also its noisy but we'll come to that later
|
| Value for money |
id say for the price i paid (80 pounds/$123 opened but not used off ebay} its done well, i just wish i'd have saved up and bought a better skimmer

| Customer Support |
i did ring customer support when i was having trouble with the inlet tube and they were helpful. I had to ring FRANCE however!! luckily i get free calls to europe so it didnt bother me but for someone else who doesnt get free calls to ring france wouldnt be an option. Helpful, they spoke very good english and told me i could send the skimmer back and they would take a look at it and send a replacement.

| Liked about it |
to be honest there isnt much i do like about the skimmer. If i had to say one good thing about it id say its very easy to empty and clean the collection cup.
|
| Didn't like |
the top 3 things i dont like about this skimmer are: 1. its too noisy- way too noisy, i have it on the tank at the bottom of my stairs leading to my bedroom and i still hear it with the door shut.
2. it doesnt pull a lot of skimmate- it does work and it does pull some skimmate, just not enough for a 140 pound skimmer. 3. 'flimsy' plastic material- the skimmer feels cheap. There is a plastic screw that you can tighten to hold the skimmer in place- i tightened the screw and the plastic cracked! luckily its on a piece of the skimmer that has no use.

Good Skimmer for Small Tanks
| Installation and Operation |
Easy to install.
Clear instruction manual
Operates better with surface skimming attachment.
Fairly easy to clean with vinegar and water.
|
| Performance vs. Expectations |
Moderate performer for my 75 gallon tank.
Did very well for my 20 gallon QT tank.
It is rated for 75-90 gallons but only with minimal bio-load.
|
| Value for money |
There are better skimmers at 160.00 dollars, for 75.00 it is a decent starter skimmer.
Also an energy saver at 10 watts per day.

| Customer Support |
Did not need to contact Red Sea.

Prizm protein skimmer
| General |
Like I said the price is decent and only uses 10 watts of power. I had mine on a 55 gallon tank and still didn't do all that well. I switched to the red sea pro deluxe which is a bigger version and that does a great job. I would pass on this skimmer and look elswhere. |
