An effective HOB skimmer
| Installation and Operation |
This product was a breeze to install. Just hang on the back of your tank (thus the TM "bak pak" plug it in and you are good to go. Self primes so you don't even have to fill reservoir. Pump will do all the work. Instructions were sufficient, though a little lacking in helping you adjust valve and water level to get the skimming action you want. For me required so time and effort with trial and error before I got the skimming action the way I wanted it. Overall though, the ease of this product is great! Simple enough for anyone to operate. The skim mate collection cup is really the only regular maintenance required. Just pull it our every week or so, empty it clean it and pop it back in. Nice!

This product performed well, in a few days after the break in I was getting green tea skim mate. An added plus is the frosted collection cup hides the disgusting skim mate from view! This product is rated to 50 gallons, though is you even approach that, say a 46 bow I would spend the bucks on a better skimmer or buy 2 CPR's.

If you are on a budget, this is the skimmer to get. For $100-$150 you can't beat it.

I haven't head any issues that required me to contact the manufacturer. They do provide a pdf online of the instruction manual.

This skimmer works very efficiently especially on smaller tanks. You can see results with in a couple days. Very easy to use, just hang on the back, plug it in and you are good to go. Also the ease of the collection cup is very nice.

The accla pump on this thing is way too loud. To get the job done right you have to open the valve most of the way. This causes the pump to run pretty loud. It can get annoying fast if your tank is in the living room. Also, the skimmer holds about 2 gallons of water. I would guess that much weight hanging off your tank could cause the seals of tank to fail, though I have not had issues with this as of yet.

Great Value
| Installation and Operation |
Installation is very easy, just hang on the back and plug it in. The pump does everything else. Removing and cleaning the collection cup is very easy. Adjusting the collection cup and air intake take some time and the directions for that aren't great.
|
| Performance vs. Expectations |
Once you get it adjusted to pull out the skimmate you want it performs very well. This was my first skimmer and came with my 75 gal tank and it worked fairly well. I wouldn't recommend any larger than a 55 gal tho unless you have a light bio load

Great value for the money. For a little over a $100 you can buy a decent skimmer that will work well on up to a 55 gal tank

Easy installation
Collection cup removes and cleans easily
Works well for a cheap hang on skimmer
|
| Didn't like |
Collection cup is small
The rubber O ring holding the collection cup up is known to break over time
Won't handle a heavy bioload on larger tanks (50 gal+)

Great skimmer for the money
| Installation and Operation |
Very easy to setup and operate, once you dial in the air valve. Overall though, the ease of this product is great! Simple enough for anyone to operate.

This skimmer works best on smaller reef tanks. I use it on my 29 gallon and I am emptying the collection cup daily. You can adjust the skimmate by setting the collection cup up or down. Lower and you will have a wetter skimmate. I modified mine with a wooden airstone and the performance nearly doubled. Also take the bio bale out. For a few days there will be micro bubbles, however you can easily rotate the output nozzle at 45 degrees to help reduce bubbles.

Good value if you plan on using it for a 40 gallon or less. They say 50 gallons but that is kind of pushing it. For $100-$150 it can't be beat.

Great nano skimmer
| Installation and Operation |
Installation is a snap. I have an older model which I run on my 40g breeder treatment tank. I used this skimmer on my original 45g reef system and it did very well. I would not recommend this skimmer for tanks over 55g as the bubble column and collection cup are simply not large enough. The blue mechanical media requires cleaning on a regular basis as this chamber tends to collect excess waste nutrients as the water moves out of the refraction chamber and before being returned to the desired tank.
|
| Performance vs. Expectations |
This skimmer used to be supplied with a RIO pump and this pump has a tenancy to fail over time. After a couple of years of use, I found this pump to leak stray voltage into the tank as discovered when cleaning in a bucket of water. Hand+Water+Stray voltage=Christmas. Consider reviewing the modification threads through Google if purchasing new. There is a Maxi-Jet modification which is highly recommended.

Good Skimmer.. Still have one
| General |
It is a good skimmer for smaller tanks. I have one currently on my 75 reef but with a light to medium bio load. I have mine slightly modded in order to compensate for it being on a larger tank. |
