Good build quality but not high performance

Very easy to connect everything but takes a lot of tweaking to get dialed in for good performance. Difficult to see water level in base.

| Performance vs. Expectations |
Skimmate was moderate and below what I expected from this product. Air/water mixing was not as good as more recent designs from other manufacturers. I spent a lot of time trying to drive it with various pumps while tweaking the water level with only moderate success in improving skimmer output.

Other higher performing skimmers in this price range are a better value. Build quality is top notch with rugged components and excellent workmanship.

Great little skimmer
| Installation and Operation |
Installing was easy, i simply built a little shelf to set it on, threw it in the sump, hooked a quiet one 4000 onto it, added a remote collection cup, plugged it in, and set the water level, and left it...

i heard a lot of good things, this performs just as expected, i thought it would take more tweeking, but i havent touched it, i have noticed an overall improvement in my tank!

I like how easy the set up was.....
I don't have to constantly tweek and adjust
It doesn't have the anoying noise from a needle wheel venturi, because it's a injector...

I wish cleaning was easier, mine has some buildup in the base of the unit, i can't fit my hand in there.....
It skims fairly dry...
It moves a lot of air through it, you hafta keep up on the carbon filter, or you can smell the skimate

Installation is very easy. Directions provided are very clear with both written and graphical illustrations.

Performace exceeded exectations. A good skimate is evident daily.

Best customer service I have ever recieved for any reef equipment. My e-mails with question where answered quickly and they even followed up with an e-mail a week later to ensure product was perfoming as expected.

1. Very compact design. Fits well in sump.
2. Downdraft air injection allows very little maitanince.
3. Easy to adjust column height of water.

1. Need the overflow add on (~$90) as cup will fill in about 24 hours with waste which will overflow if left unattended.
2. Difficult to see water line.
3. Foam head will drop immediately when tank is feed. ( Recovers quickly and pointed out in instructions)

Dry
| General |
I've had this skimmer now for over two yrs. You can tell by looking at this skimmer it is a well built skimmer and should last for yrs. I have a mag 7 pump that was recommended for use with this skimmer. The skimmer works well but Ive found it will only skim very dry. Ive tried readjusting it daily or just leaving it be and no matter what I try its still dry. I hear stories of folks who get a cup a day well these skimmer will not do that. I have called the manufacture several times and have been told that the wetness of the skim mate doesnt matter its just added water. I will say the manufacturer rep was extremely helpful he even sent me a larger injector at no cost along with larger hose. I would recommend this skimmer but I would warn you "you wont be collecting wet skim mate". |

Decent skimmer but not my first choice
| General |
The Aqua-C EV180 is an OK skimmer. I would not be purchasing another one again though. It does not produce near as much skimmate as my ASM, Reef Octopus or my Red Sea C-skim 1200. I run a mag 5 for a feed pump and hav an ATO so the water level in the sump is the same all the time. I would definitely spend a little more money and go with a Reef Octopus or an ASM. |

It is small enough to fit inside of a sump easily and is a pretty basic design. good overall fit and finish
