Not worth the time or money. featured

Installation and Operation The installation of this skimmer was pretty straight forward. Despite fighting with the tubing supplied, it was a little bit tight. The instructions were helpful when needed but for the most part it is self explanatory. Maintenance on this product has to be constant otherwise it does not function proper. Also the cobblestones get clogged up easily and have to be replaced regularly.

Performance vs. Expectations For the most part this did not meet my expectation's. For the price you pay the product just does not fit the bill. Also does not skim the amount claimed by the manufacture.

Value for money I would say as far as the value of the product for the money, in my opinion is not worth it. I would say the product compared to other similar ones is a little on the light end of skimmer capabilities.

Customer Support I did not have to contact the company for any reason. Instructions were good and it was just a trial.

Liked about it I did like the compact size of this skimmer. Compared to others in its class the size was at the advantage. Also while operating this product is very quiet. No offensive noises or constant irritating vibrations. Very easy to clean as well. Collection cup removes very easily were some are tight and near impossible to remove for standard maintenance.

Didn't like I would say one the cons of this skimmer is the suction cups. They seem to be less efficient then many other aquarium cups. The amount of maintenance to keep it performing is unreal. Also has a very small collection cup. To skim correctly it seems like all you do is dump and scrub the cup. Plus the ongoing cost of the bubble stones for this product is ridiculous. I would not purchase this product again.

Works, but not that great. featured

Installation and Operation The instructions that come with this are worthless. I ended up searching the web to find photos of one installed and a thread in a forum with pictures. It isn't that putting it together is hard, it's placement in the tank that was a pain. There's nothing in the instructions to indicate how far above the water the collection cup should go. I later learned that this all depends...but it would have saved me time if the instructions had one more page in them about this.

This product is much easier to install when it isn't put in a BioCube, which I think is just a bit silly. I had one in my BioCube and 1 in a 20 gallon tank, the one in the 20 gallon just suction cupped in, the one in the BioCube wasn't so easy to fit and the cup kept coming off. Like all air-driven skimmers they take time to break in and require adjustment.

The skimmer comes with a pump (which I replaced with a more powerful one) and an anti-siphon valve which I removed because no matter which way I turned it, the air didn't go through.

They do work, but certainly not as well as a Tunze or Sapphire skimmer, but they also cost over $100 less than those brands.

Performance vs. Expectations Even though I own two of these skimmers, I have to say I don't really like them very much. I can't say they don't work, because they do, the one I had on the 20 gallon tank produced plenty of skimmate, so much that the foam would pop the top off the collection cup. But they are awkward, difficult to adjust, and small. I replaced both air pumps for more powerful ones. I also don't like having to replace the wooden air stones, they actually aren't cheap.

Value for money I feel these are priced about $10 too high, but in terms of cost to benefit, I think they are worth the money. I purchased them at a time when I couldn't afford a better skimmer, but really felt I needed one. Even though they are rated for a 29 gallon tank, I feel they do much better at 20 or smaller. I eventually ended up breaking down the 20 gallon tank and put both in the 29 gallon, and that was about right. They are well built, and do the job.

In short, if you have a small tank and little money, I recommend them, if you have a larger tank, or more money, then I think you would be better off with something else.

Customer Support There was nothing on their web site to help with adjusting or installing this.

Liked about it 1. Affordable
2. Fits in a small tank and doesn't stick up or look ugly
3. Does produce skimmate and help your tank

Didn't like 1. Doesn't fit well in the BioCube that it is designed to fit in
2. Wood air stones need to be replaced regularly and cost a bit
3. Air pump not powerful enough and anti-siphon valve doesn't work well.

Decent nano skimmer featured

Installation and Operation This product is very easy to install, it only requires the assembling of a couple big parts, like the top and bottom, air valve, air pump and airstone. The instructions are very specific and will help you along the way. It is extremely easy to maintain and operate. The maintainence required is cleaning the outside plastic, changing the airstones and emtying out the waste from the removable top.

Performance vs. Expectations There are much better skimmers out there, but this skimmer is very convenient for a nano tank. In my 20 gallon, it works like a charm because it helps out with removing unwanted organics which are hard to remove on my own with only water changes. Nanos usually don't even need skimmers, so this little skimmer really helps out keeping the water quality at best.

Value for money This product is of good value for the money. It was very cheap, only around $50. It works great, never had any problems with it stopping or not working.

Liked about it I like how small it is and how much organic matter it takes out of the water for just a little airstone and a plastic tube. But you must make sure you buy WOODEN replacement airstones, the store brand types make too big of bubbles and don't do the trick, so make sure you purchase oceanic brands. I like the air valve tube that allows you to turn the air off and on and adjust it to how many bubbles you prefer.

Didn't like I didn't like that the top is constantly floating around in the tank. You must find just the right spot for the skimmer vertically or else the top will constantly float away. Just high enough off of the surface for the bubbles to reach the top of the container yet low enough inside the water so the bubbles are going in the container and out the air hole.

Not worth the money

Installation and Operation Well I bought this item a couple months back when I decied to start up a 20 gallon long nano tank. I was able to buy this very cheap for about $25 so I figured I would try it out. When I got it it was as described: fairly small and compact which I liked, but the tubing was pretty hard to install as its farily tight to get in and the airline hose valve is always needing adjustment. One day I'm overflowing, the next day the bubbles aren't evan coming to the top of the cup which leads me to the next thing - the cup is so small! Prepare to be either emptying it every day or else go fishing for the lid in your tank (it never stays on). The airstone needs to be replaced monthly to endure that its working properly. To be honest I don't know if this thing is even working properly because it seems to change everyday..

Performance vs. Expectations This item does not perform very well. It seems to be always needing adjusmnet which changes again the next day. The airstone needs to be replaced often wich is a pain and the lid on the skim cup always falls off into my tank.

Value for money I mean it is cheap but the value just isn't there. I would just save up and buy something that's more realiable.

Customer Support Haven't dealt with them.

Liked about it Small and sleek.

Didn't like Constant adjusting
Lid falls off
Instalation

I was expecting more out of Oceanic

Installation and Operation Instructions are bland and horrible. But lots of online access to videos and such to get it hooked up right and help with where to put it.

Performance vs. Expectations I was expecting more out of Oceanic then this. It works but not fantastic. The flow rate of the bubbles constantly changes and it does collect the scum but its performance week to week is variable.

Value for money For the $50 you pay it is worth it in a small space. I have not tried any other mini-skimmers yet so I do not know how this one relates. It does collect the scum but as I said the performance varies from week to week.

Customer Support Have not had to contact them.

Liked about it Small and compact. Worked well with my 29 Biocube setup. Was able to put the skimmer and heater in the first chamber no problem.

Didn't like Changes flow rate. Isnt consistent with flow rate from week to week.

Don't waste your time or money

Installation and Operation It is easy to install. Connect the air stone inside the tube and drop it in the right side chamber of the Biocube. Maintenence is a little tedious, I had to empty yhe very small collection cup every other or every third day. I wouldn't consider this a serious skimmer.

Performance vs. Expectations You will get a very weak skim-mate from this skimmer. It just isn't designed to allow enough contact time. Also, if you decrease the bubble output, it takes forever to fill the cup.

Value for money For the $40 or so, I would think of another alternative.

Liked about it I guess the only thing I could say is it added oxygen to the tank via the air stone.

Didn't like It is an inferior skimmer to say the least but if you want something out of sight and get a real weak skim, it may be for you.

not great

Installation and Operation did not understand the manaual, I have to figure it out myself expecially for the people who never used protein skimmer before, I had to search internet to find out how a protein skimmer works LOL. It is easy to use, just plug in and make sure the forms is there.

Performance vs. Expectations it is good conside its size because it is small enough for the nano tank. But I will have to adjust the air very often.

Value for money I paid about 60 for it. plus the air pump. But that is not it, you will have to buy the airstone every now and then to make sure it is working properly.

Customer Support never had one

Liked about it 1. compact
2. not very expensive
3. easy to use

Didn't like 1. need to replace airstone and it adds to the expenses
2. need to adjust the air like crazy
3. wish the collection box could be bigger

Uhh......yeah.......

Installation and Operation Easy to install, operation is easy. Check valve has arrow to show you what to do, its pretty self explanatory. It comes nicely packaged with instructions that are clear

Performance vs. Expectations ......wow.....it really doesnt pull anything. I ran it for a few weeks and changed airstones......just couldnt get it to pull anything worth while. I did get a fine green mist, it almost looked like a light green tea. VERY light. No smell though and bubble head, so to me it just wasnt cutting it.

Value for money Dont waste your time or money....it wont pull anything and I personally wouldn't give it to anyone let alone sell it to someone.

Customer Support Oceanic is always top grade with CS, but I havent had to deal with them for this product.

Liked about it small
came with the tank I bought, so I didnt waste my money

Didn't like Doesnt pull
Air pump is a bummer
Air stones are a bummer and dont really work all that well.
Air stones have to be replaced a lot, only to not work.

Quality nano reef skimmer

Installation and Operation I have this product for my bio cube and it does a great job of cleaning organic mater and oxygenating the tank water.

Performance vs. Expectations This product performs strong and functions well.

Value for money One of the best deals around for a protein skimmer. (nano tank)

Liked about it I have this product for my bio cube and it does a great job of cleaning organic mater and oxygenating the tank water.

Didn't like They dont make one for the 8 gal. biocube but you can squeeze the 14 gal. one in there with some effort or you can modify the rear chambers of the biocube.
