D&D Marine Enterprises Terminator II
|
This is a cup less skimmer that is rated for up to 150 gallon aquarium. It has the venturi system. It come with a mag Drive model 7 to drive the skimmer. It will need a rio 1200 to provide water to the mag drive.

Easy to assemble with a little common sense, beats some $600 dollar skimmers I've had in the past hands down.
| Installation and Operation |
Instructions were very simple and construction was just as easy, previous reviews complain of leaking and cheap parts but common sense is all you need. Of course two pieces of flat plastic (union) is going to leak without a o ring or seal of some type. Having "a lot of leaks" is not due to inferior PVC fittings on this unit, it is due to the builder not using their brain. I used no channel locks or wrenches, just the Teflon tape provided and my hands to tighten all the fittings and had 1 leak. I gave the particular fitting one more complete turn and leak was solved.

Performs amazing and I usually pull nearly a liter of skimmet in a couple days. You can adjust the flow to have a dry skim or wet skim and everything in between.

Very affordable and works better ,IMO, than most high dollar units.

Simple to build, easy to adjust with no need to adjust after initial setup due to the second column accurately controlling levels, very affordable.

Only thing I guess I could say I don't like is the fact that a it runs to pumps and feed pump must be bought seperate.

A Nightmare!!!!!!
| Installation and Operation |
The instructions are well phrased and the pictures are a great reference. Everything was well labeled. As for the assembly it is quite easy. They provide Teflon tape that is needed and everything is so post to be only hand tight. The directions specifically say do not use tools to tighten. I read over the instructions 3 times then went to assemble the skimmer. After assembly was done I followed the interactions for start up.. The plumbing leaked everywhere. So I went back over everything again thinking I may have missed something. It still leaked everywhere.. In the directions it does not mention about the two O rings needed (that were not supplied for some reason) i picked them up at the local harware store.I took the skimmer
out and then placed it in the sink where I could find all the leaks. Ran the unit for 2 hours while fixing all the leaks. Getting to plumbing correct so the pump fit was a nightmare. After another 2 hours of running and work I finally desided to to it my way I used channel locks to tighten everything up and PVC glue. After about an hour I then felt it was time to install the unit.. I monitored the unit over a peorid of 24 hours and found 2 leaks that I needed to fix.. Cleaning this unit is a breeze it's size and accessibility is great.

The performance of this skimmer I have to say is absolutely great. I am comparing it to my CPR unit. It blows the doors off of the CPR. I absolutely lode the no catch can.

I bought this unit on sale so with that being said and disregarding the nightmare leaking yes it was a good value.. If I were to pay a premium price for this unit I would have returned it asap.

What I like..... Well first of the no catch can is he best the only reason why I considered buying this unit, secound is the visibility the unit has you can see right through it it is crystal clear.

Well first off the plumbing parts were some sort of cheap plastic that need to be upgraded to quality parts so they don't leak, the hight adjustment is a pain because you have to turn the unit off in order to let the water drain to adjust it without putting water everywhere.. The leaking engeneral of all the PVC was awful..
