Good to have on pump intakes

For as cheap as these strainers are, I'd highly recommend sticking them on the input of any pump or closed loops. They work well and distributing flow over a larger area, making the total force at any one location much less and more likely to avoid sucking in fish or other critters, saving both your pump and livestock.

These are a simple threaded strainer that are very easy to install. They don't require any special tools (or really any tool at all) and should fit any 1" fpt fitting. They're also incredibly cheap, so it's hard to justify not using them

Nothing particular to dislike about this device, but it may require more cleaning than you like. They keep things out of your pump, but they can get covered in algae or other wastes.

Insurance for your pumps!

Always use bulkhead strainers. You never know what might get sucked up into your pump and possible destroy it.
keep an eye on them if you have them in that tank and you may from time to time find a fish or snail stuck top one.
Beware these will not stop an anemone from getting sucked in a chopped in to tiny pieces!
