OK, but true unions are much better.

These valves work, but the extra money for the true union is well worth it. These work well in a Drain situation, but can tend to leak in a pressure situation if they are valved back at all. Also, if you remove the union side, you lose the pressure on the ball valve and it leaks! So, if it is holding back water with the union removed, it doesn't work!
