I have always just called this "plumber's tape", I don't know if that's the real name or not but that's what I call it. It's one of those items that people sometimes don't know if they really need or not when doing plumbing projects. I learned years ago that I really do need it.
I was out of the stuff, had only one threaded fitting left to do so I decided I could get it on tight enough so it didn't leak. I was wrong and it did leak. I had to go get some, like I should have, and redo it.
There are a lot of different brands, and you can get some at Home Depot and they work just as well in my opinion and cost a little less.

1. Seemed easier to find the end of this than the stuff I get at the hardware store.
2. Actually works, keeps the leaks out.

1. It doesn't break evenly but stretches.

You cannot live without Good Ole Teflon tape!

For just about any plumbing project you will need Teflon tape! I prefer threaded fitting so I do go through a bunch of this tape. When used properly this tape will provide a lasting water tight seal between fittings. May people do not realize that this is not recommended for use on fittings over 1" but I have done it may times with not problem. Over or under use of this could cause you seal to fail. It's should be wrapped in 1-2 revolutions in the same direction as the threads.

Simple to use and effective you can never have enough Teflon tape. Inevitable when you need it you wil not be able yo find it.
When used tight it works great. It is very cheap.

you can never have enough

Teflon tape. If you're doing any plumbing, this stuff is priceless. And at about $1 a roll, it's may as well be free. I use this stuff on any threaded fitting, and I always seem to find a roll of teflon tape when I open a drawer.

The price is right, you should be able to find this tape for about $1 in enough quantity to perform many jobs. It will make an otherwise leaking fitting completely water tight. It's easy to use, just wrap it around the threaded portion of your connection in the same direction that the connections will be mated (so that, when you're putting the pieces together, you're not threading against the way the tape is rolled).

Just one complaint with this product, it's a one time use. If you take a fitting apart, it's usually best to reapply the tape, as it won't work as well when you reattach the pieces of hardware.

Essential DIY item!

Teflon tape is a no brainer item to use with threaded PVC parts. Does a great job of sealing threaded fittings without gluing them together.

easy to use. Just make sure you wrap the threads the same way you screw them in. Otherwise it may come undone and leak.
