Overflow systems are a standard for reef keeping. A bulkhead utilized as an overflow route from tank to sump/refugium (with a good plumbing job) is a work of art! Definitely will save you the troubles and mess that you'll be getting from those old-school boxes (unless you have an auto top-off system to keep the syphon going). I have four of these in my 180gal reef tank, two for surface extraction and the remaining two for bottom suction (w/c you could not go by with boxes).

Liked about it	Once you're done with it's installation it's good for life! It's convenient, not at all messy and looks better than those that cling behind a tank. It's way more affordable than the box type overflow too. This type of system gives you more flexibility.
