Excellent Value and Powerful/Flexible Controller featured

Comments I am a huge fan of Neptune Controllers. I started with the Aquacontroller Jr. and updated once I needed a more advanced controller. This controller has done everything I asked it to do. The built in web pages and the ability to monitor and control it via an iPhone app from anywhere in the world is just icing on the cake. I use it with the DC8 and 2 DC4HD power modules, and they work great. The direct connection as opposed to X10 works extremely well. With the ability to monitor and to some extent control pH, ORP, and Temp, you have a lot of data with which to work to control your aquarium.

Liked about it I like pretty much everything about this controller. It is extremely flexible and can be programmed to do pretty much anything you can think of. It also has the ability to use a battery backup by connecting a 9V battery, or by connecting a second adapter to a UPS. The programming language can be a bit confusing, but once you spend time with it, it is actually very logical, just need to learn the syntax. You can control multiple steps for heaters, control moonlights, Tunze Powerheads, even moon lights in varying intensities. I am switching 5 different lighting setups and it works like a champ. Luckily I have never needed it, but it will even turn the lights off if the temp gets to hot. With external switches available, you can make this controller do pretty much anything "logical".

Didn't like I have a couple minor issues with this controller. One problem is that, every now and then, the data history just disappears. It doesn't lose its configuration, just the data history. The screen is also a little hard to read under bright lighting. Other than that, I think this controller is flawless.

An amazing contoller packed with features featured

Comments This controller will accomplish everything you would need in order to monitor and control your tank. The base unit usually comes with just a temperature probe, but it is expandable to take control of multiple systems, has an webserver built in, and is very easy to program. I've been using this controller on my tank for 3+ years and I've never had an issue. I access it from my iphone and very much enjoy the built in web capabilities. It does not require any software to buy, it has two probe locations, you can simulate sunset/sunrise, and with the expansion capabilities you can add countless timers, it has wavemaker features, add switches (such as float switches), alarms, it datalogs (either the last 1000 data points or you can keep them further if you record the data), you can add a battery backup, and it has built in diagnostics. And that's not all inclusive, there are other features that I use that are probably just as important and impressive. All said, it's an amazing controller.

Liked about it There's very little not to like about this unit. It is easy to program, so you won't be intimidated if you have even just basic computer experience. It's very consistent, I've never had a failure with this unit. The web interface is what really puts it over the top. Being able to call it up when I'm out of town gives me a great peace of mind. All I really had to do was plug it into the router and set the router to send my IP call to the neptune. I can get to it from anywhere with an internet connection, including my iphone. I actually like the iphone app better than the standard broswer interface, to be honest. I've enjoyed every aspect of this unit.

Didn't like The only thing I would begin to complain about on this unit is the price. If you have extensive computer experience, you could probably build something to do all that this controller does for about 1/3 the price, but even then it won't be packaged as nicely and it's unlikely to be as user friendly. For a mostly plug and play controller, this unit is awesome and works flawlessly when combined with the other neptune products. The only thing that would keep me from buying this unit again is that a newer version includes the wavemaker features built in.

Neptune Systems AC3 Controller A must have for the serious reefer. featured

Comments Neptune's Controllers are worth every penny that is paid for them. The unit on my tank has run with out fail for four years with a year break (while my tank was torn down and a new one was started) this tool is so diverse and does so many things it is over whelming at first. to begin with it will connect to a local network via a basic category 5 network cable. by doing this the controller will store data logs of the tank ph temp 2nd ph probe, and dissolved oxygen which is all accessible from the internet anywhere as long as you have the IP address and password setup. also in the computer and on the device there is a manual mode which you can control any device manually and then switch it back to auto.

Temp: this unit can turn on and off fans chillers lights pumps if the temp get too hot or cold. for example lets say you want the tank to get no hatter than 85 degrees you can program the unit to turn on a fan at 80 the chiller at 82 turn off the lights at 84 and shut down aux pumps like u/v sterilizer or what ever at 85. and it will send you a text, e-mail or pager (if you still have one of those things). oh ya I almost forgot it will turn on your heater too. (i don't have one of those)

PH: what a great thing to monitor and use on a calcium reactor. this can be used to set up a calcium reactor to turn on and off at different times according to a set of commands based on the ph inside the reactor. plus a second probe to monitor the ph in the tank.

Pumps: I think this is one of the coolest things on this system it has a feed button which you can setup to shut off what ever pump for 2,3,4,or 5 minutes to allow the fish to feed and no food ends up in the over flow. there is also a tidal type setup that can be done with power heads. one power head will run for x number of minutes and then shut off and then another will turn on and run for x number of minutes and can be set up any way you like.

Lighting: this is just as divers as the pumps. you can set up any number of lights to run for any number of hours. and the system also has a season table and you can set the lights to run on a clock for a particular area for example if in may Florida gets 10 hours of sunlight then it will run the lights for that many hours per day and increase and decease by the day for every month. I have had very good luck with this setting and have had some coral spawning in my previous tank.

If there is something that you need to control in your tank and it has a plug than this device can do it for you. I love the unit I have now and have considered upgrading to the Apex model which I hear great things about as well.

the Software: this is either a free download and you get Aqua notes light or you can buy Aqua notes. I recommend buying aqua notes because then you can track the live stock put in to the tank, when it gets fragged, and when it gets removed and will generate reports to track trends with the water quality and other things like when lights get replaced and so on.

Liked about it easy to program once you understand the language. The tech support is OK I have had really good luck with them and they always solve my problems and are able to walk me through things with ease, I never have to wait for tech support.

This unit does not fail for three years running (one year break) it has been like a rock.

Didn't like All items are sold separate with the unit I purchased it I did not know this until after i had received it. so then i had to go spend additional money for the Energy bar, PH probe, and temp probe.

The energy 8 bar will not run my Coralvue dual 250 watt metal halide ballast and power both lights I will need to buy the heavy duty energy 4.

there is no mounting hardware (other than Velcro which falls off fast) or slots for Ty-wraps to secure the main unit to a frame or wall or where ever you are going to make it's home.

I remember one time with tech support the person helping me solved my problem but was less than polite.
