A well made quality product that I won't buy again
| Comments |
There are tanks that really need a magnet cleaner and if you have one of them, generally a deep tank, then this product is a very good one and more affordable than the Tunze version. However, I found that I simply don't need this. My tank is shallow and so it is quicker and easier for me to just use a scraper and it's easier to control. I found I often "missed a spot" with the magnet cleaner. I purchased three of them and used them for a while but didn't like how they looked just sitting there. I also scratched one of my tanks with one of them. With another I came to close to the gravel and it turned up the edge of the scrub pad and the glue smeared on the tank wall. I realize those incidents aren't the norm but they did happen and could happen again.
As far as being a quality product, this is, it works well, is strong enough to go through pretty thick glass and removes the algae you want it to. I just feel like it's a novelty for most tanks and a good old fashioned scrubber or scraper does a better job for less money.
I use mine to hold on an overflow box now...makes a great clamp!
Again, if you have a deep tank or a tank that is situated in such a way that getting a long handle scrubber or scraper around isn't going to work, then this is a good product and will help you, otherwise I would say save some cash.

1. Strong magnet
2. Good scrubbing surface
3. Stays in the tank and doesn't need to be stored wet somewhere
|
| Didn't like |
1. Stays in the tank (yes I also put that as a think I liked about it...it was a love hate thing).
2. Doesn't work to get low in the tank toward the substrate.
3. Not as quick as an old fashioned tool and it was easy to miss a spot.

I wish this thing stuck to the Magnet like its designed to.
| Comments |
I used this cleaner on my 65 gallon tank which had 1/2 glass and it worked like a charm. it stuck well to the glass and really did a great job scraping off the coraline algae and the brown and green dust that forms during the week in between cleanings.
then I Bought a larger tank (a perpetual constant for this hobby) it's a 150 gallon tank with either 5/8 or 3/4 inch glass while the mag float still sticks to the glass it does not have the power to clean off the light brown and green algae that forms during the week let alone some coraline algae and frequently pops off while cleaning.
The bristle end that goes in the tank works well to loosen algae from the glass and is very durable I have had my mag float for four years now.
the plastic construction and durable and magfloat did a good job sealing the unit that goes in the tank. I leave mine in the tank all the time and have not had any problem with the unit in the tank leaking and letting water in near the magnet.
the outside unit is also well constructed from plastic and the felt has lasted four years it's very soft and has never scratched the glass.

Efficient weekly glass maintenance
| Comments |
The Mag-Float 350 is an efficient, cost-effective tool for glass cleaning of tanks up to 350 gallons. Used weekly, it keeps the algae growth on the DT glass down to a controllable level. It cleans mechanically so it doesn't have the risk of interfering with tank parameters or livestock (assuming you don't snap the magnets together over the livestock and you really shouldn't be that klutzy). In general the Mag-Float does a 75% job of glass cleaning; glass needs supplemental scrapping of coralline and heavy scrubbing with a scrubbing brush along the sanded area. The aqua scape must be arranged to allow movement between LR and glass.

If you clean the tank on a weekly basis regularly, the glass stays relatively clean. The Mag-Float is wonderful for doing a quick clean of glass in advance of arriving company. Maintenance is efficient and easy. The design facilitates cleaning around corners and reconnecting the magnetic sides without my getting into the tank or wet.

I find that coralline still needs some razor scrapping to completely remove it, but it is significantly less than would be required without weekly Mag-Float use. Sometimes when coming around a corner, the half inside the tank gets caught in the water movement and goes away from the glass and into the water. Not a big problem because the Mag-Float does float so you just reach into the top of the tank and pull that half back over to the glass. Also, the sand can get between the halves especially when cleaning close to the sandbed and you must separate the halves and rinse the sand away to continue cleaning or you'll scratch your glass.

Doesn't live up to the hype
| Comments |
I bought this to replace my other algae magnet and I wasn't too pleased. This is still a great magnet but honestly it only works if you do daily/weekly cleaning.

Great product
| General |
Makes cleaning algae mush easier in my 180 gallon. Also great at helping to clean algae in hard to reach places and in deeper tanks. Make sure to leave enough clearance between live rock and your glass so the magnet scraper can pass between them. |
