Great for freshwater planted tank featured

Installation and Operation As with most lights, installation is no more complicated than taking it out of the box and sticking it on top of your tank. My model did come with built-in, expandable legs that made fitting it to my tank a breeze though.

Performance vs. Expectations As someone who loves to keep plants in my tank I know that lighting is essential. The typical lights that often come with your tank are not enough to keep plants healthy. Coralife makes a great product designed for the ever growing planted tank market. Keep in mind this isn't designed for a marine tank so if you stick it on one don't be surprised if you don't see optimal results. On your planted freshwater tank, however, I was impressed with the results.

I noticed new growth and brightening of color among the various plants within a week, after a month I was trimming and shaping my plants, real aquascape work!

The plant colors aren't the only colors that benefit from this light though, your fish will as well. I especially noticed in my neon tetras, and my celestial pearl danios.

Value for money For those who desire to keep a planted tank, as far as lights go, this actually isn't a very expensive product. One good factor of the increased popularity of planted tanks is that the prices are going down the more units that sell.

Customer Support I have never had to deal with customer support on this product. It worked and was easy to install, so there wasn't a need. I did use their web site to look up replacement bulbs for when I needed to get new ones.

Liked about it 1. Expandable legs made for an easy fit.
2. Perfect for planted tanks (1 plant or 100).
3. Affordable price for what you get.

Didn't like 1. Casing was gold, I would rather it have been black. New models are black so may not be an issue for you.
2. No cooling fan which caused minor heat issues. New models do have a cooling fan though.

Good light for reef tank of softies and 'shrooms featured

Installation and Operation The Coralife 30" 2X65watt compact fluorescent fixture is relatively inexpensive to purchase and provides enough light in my 37 gallon reef tank for softies, mushrooms, and selected LPS (i.e., hammer and torch). It is dead easy to operate; mine sits on eggcrate on the top of the DT with the dual plugs running to the outlet below. I plugged it into timers and it did the rest. Four fans keep it cool. The fixture's noise is audible but not excessive. Occasionally I slide the plastic cover out of its slot and clean away the salt deposits. Every 9 to 12 months, in rotation, I change the power fluorescent bulbs, the cost of which is the biggest drawback. Compact fluorescent straight pin bulbs are expensive and the correct size and wattage do not all fit the Coralife fixture. Of course Coralife bulbs (approx $44 retail, $26 TRT sponsor value) work well. Hamilton (approx $44 retail, $20 TRT sponsor value) also worked. I tried another less expensive brand that did not fit and had to be returned. Also, the snap-on covers for the four fans break break off; those light covers should be redesigned to be more durable. (Narrow strip of velcro can repair ok.)

Performance vs. Expectations Coralife's 2X65W fixture does perform well and corals growth healthily in its lighting. It doesn't require extra cooling or mounting or any particular expertise to turn it on light a reef. I like that trait in a light fixture.

Value for money The fixture is a good value especially as they are durable enough to be purchased used. The real, on-going cost is in the replacement bulbs which will run at least $20. You have two bulbs so you can select the lighting that you prefer (i.e., 1 x 10,000K & 1 x actinic or 1 x 10,000K & 1 x 50:50, etc.) I liked this fixture so much that I have purchased a second one on the used market after becoming familiar with this one.

Customer Support I haven't dealt with the company at all.

Liked about it The 30" 2X65watt compact light fixture is extremely easy to use and supports a 37 gallon reef tank for most corals (soft corals, lower light LPS, but not for SPS). It doesn't general significant heat or noise and has no glare (so a canopy is not required for use). Dual switches allow individual control over both lights. Because it is available on the used market, it is a very good value.

Didn't like On-going cost of bulb replacement will mount up over the long run. Fans are not covered in a durable way; after some use the covers are likely to have broken their snapping fit off. (Since the light sits with the covers resting on a level top surface, this problem isn't a functional limitation but it is annoying.) If you have your heart set on a high light SPS reef tank, this is not the best light choice for you.

Nice little light

Installation and Operation I got this light used from ebay and it was in great shape. There was not to much to installing this light other than replacing the plastic hood that came with my aquarium.

Performance vs. Expectations This product operated just as it should and was wonderful on my 29 gallon tank. It produced enough light to satisfy me and the tank inhabitants.

Value for money I think this light is well worth the hundred bucks i gave for it and I might even be convinced to give full MSRP for it, but I like to try and change out so much equipment... Some spend there money on new phones and blackberries i like to try as many products as possible and keep only the best.

Customer Support I had no issue with this hood while i owned it and have not seen anyone who has.

Liked about it Great low price light, with enough power to get the job done. Replacement bulbs are easily found but are not as cheap as the square pin.

Didn't like The fans are nice and they keep the hood cool, but make a little to much noise for my taste. I also disliked the plastic covers used opposite the fans which snap in, i think there should be stainless steel screws which would make removal for cleaning a lot easier. I don't think it was a problem but i would have preferred the power cords were run out the back vise out the side which would make fit inside the canopy much better. I also disliked the cost of the coral life replacement bulbs. Fifty bucks is what the local Petco and Pets plus charge for the stock replacement and thats way to much. The easy work around is to not use standard replacements.
