Sea Apple Cucumber

Sea Apples are not for beginners. Though their bright purple, white and red coloration makes them very attractive, they may release a potent toxin if stressed or injured killing other animals and corals in the aquarium....

Lovely Sea Apple featured

Comments I bought this because it was such a beautiful color (and I hadn't even seen it with it's tentacles out!) from a lfs. After getting home I researched it (my bad - should have done the research ahead of time, but I just trusted my lfs guy when he said "Yeah, you can do that!") & became very nervous about the risks with this animal....

I have to say, though, that I am glad I have it. I have read & read about their care, and the two most important things are: 1) protect them from powerheads, and 2) feed them phytoplankton (good water quality is a given here). Apparently the majority of these brought home slowly starve to death (like in 6-18 months) because people don't know to feed them - my lfs guy told me I didn't need to feed it at all - that it has zooanthellae, which is actually not true. I feed mine a small amount of phyto (1-5 ml) 5/7 days and it seems to be flourishing - the tentacles have doubled in size and it opens up to feed daily. This critter likes a strong flow, not a low flow (again, my lfs guy gave me misinformation).

Liked about it This animal is soooo beautiful, it is honestly the most interesting animal in the tank. It changes its size and shape quite regularly, and is very cool to watch when it moves. It's method of feeding by sucking the phyto off its tentacles, then coating them with mucous before returning them to the water is so unique and fun to watch!

Didn't like akes me nervous when it gets stressed - when stressed this animal "bloats" up - I have seen it quadruple it's size when I turned the powerhead off for cleaning and then turned it back on. It took about three hours to return to normal, but was nerve-wracking for me as I was watching it closely in case I needed to remove it quickly. Hard to know exactly how much to feed it.

BEAUTIFUL COLOR featured

Comments I have a sea apple in my tank. I hear and read things about how its hard to take care of and if it dies itll wipe out the tank. I cant see it happening, I have had it for a few months and the guy I got it from has had it for as long as I have known him. I would have to say that there is really no special care or anything you have to do different once adding one, considering of coarse you have an established tank and the right lights

Liked about it I like the way they they light up the tank and they are just beautiful to watch as they filter feed.the bright reds, blues, whites purple are a sight to sea. I find mine comes out at night and stay out for a good part of the day but goes to bed early. I got mine from a friend cuz he was having one of his fish nipping at it. He didnt want to let it go but it was either sell me the apple or tare down a 300G tank to catch a fish. ( I Will find out the name of the fish and post it)

Didn't like my only dislike would have to be that the apple likes to be at the back of my tank. He is SOOOOOOOOO BEAUTIFUL and just a waste to be at the back where I can barly see him. but thats where he likes to be and who am I to move him.

Very colorful animal

General I have never see a problem from one of these in all my years of keeping them and have never know anyone to have them pollute a tank.

For years people have made the claim that they will wipe out a tank when they die. I just never seen it happen and don't feel it's as big a problem as made out to be. JMO

Liked about it I just love the way they move and filter feed. add color to your tank.

Didn't like I don't have any dislikes

be careful

General These guys are beautiful but they are very sensative. If they die they will release things into your tank that can kill everything.

Liked about it I lvoed the way they look.

Didn't like When they die they pollute the tank a ton.
