Totally worth it for reefers
| Installation and Operation |
Refractometers are fairly simple devices. They measure salinity by how much light bends though it. Once calibrated with RO/DI water, they are very accurate and resuable within seconds (just wipe the window clean with a dry paper towel. Just place a few drops of SW on the window, flip the cap closed, and view your salinity through the eyepiece. Just make sure the room has sufficient light to see the scale in the eyepiece.

Very durable. There is a thick aluminium body with rubber grips for extra holding power. Eyepiece has a focus so more than one person can use it.

Great Product
| Installation and Operation |
Very simple to operate. Came with clear instructions for calibration, I went through the process and it turns out it was already perfectly calibrated. It measures salinity very accurately and is super simple to use. Way more accurate than other types of salinity measurements like the floating arm type.

| Performance vs. Expectations |
I was expecting a high quality item, and was not disapointed. The body is all metal, there is a rubber grip and viewport. the optics are very clean and clear making reading it easy to read. The focus is adjustable, making reading easy for people with imperfect vision, or good vision.

The value was reasonable. It was just slightly more expensive than other options, but since it is well made I expect to never need to replace it.

The hinge pin for the sample cover rusted even after I cleaned it every time. This dies not affect the operation of the unit though, and I have no suggestion to prevent this.

JBJ Temp Comp Refractometer
| Installation and Operation |
No real set up for the refractometer. Calibration is needed but very simple. Instructions are very helpful and well written. Maintenance is just keeping the viewer clean and salt free

I liked that the unit comes with a screw driver to adjust and calibrate the unit . I also like that it comes with a polishing cloth the keep the viewer clean and clear.The unit also and a great focus adjustment . my eyes are bad and I can adjust the focus so I don't need my glasses .

If the unit is not cleaned with fresh water the salt collects in the hinge on the viewer and gets stiff. Not sure how that could be corrected other than a plastic pin ?
