"With gel binder to maximize fish nutrition"... and piss off the aquarist
| Comments |
I bought this food because I have had such great success using the Ocean Nutrition Formula Two Flake food and thought that it would be even better when frozen. As a keeper of pygmy angels I really wanted something that would contain algae/ vegetable matter for them to remain healthy and vibrant. However, I was unaware of the fact that this food contained gel binder and I was even more unaware of what that fact meant. Basically you thaw the food and the food remains in the shape of the cube. Not a big deal really...except when you want small manageable bites for your fish that don't sink faster than your fish can eat them. You literally have to crush this thing in order for it to break apart. After about 10 minutes of mashing the cube into smaller parts for my fish and expecting them to go nuts with it I watched my angel take it in and immediately spit it back out. I don't know if the fish can't stand the gel binder, but my fish didn't seem interested in this food at all. Basically all the food ended up in a heep in a corner of the tank uneaten. None of my fish have eaten this food with much vigor and they are quite the voracious eaters. The best luck I have had with this food was to use a garlic supplement to attract the fish to it and placing it in an Ocean Nutrition Grid Feeding Clip for grazers. All in all I was let down by this food. I had high expectations with good ingredients(besides the gel binder) and the fact that it was Ocean Nutrition. However, in the end I still have almost all the cubes sitting in my freezer with a bad case of freezer burn. There are better ways to get your fish algae/ vegetable matter.

GEL BINDER GEL BINDER GEL BINDER (does that count as three things?)
My fish didn't seem to enjoy it like I hoped they would.
I expected more out of a frozen food carrying the Ocean Nutrition Label.
Ended up wasting away in a corner of my tank

OK food

I bought this to try to get my fish some greens. But I was unaware of the binder it used. So I had to cut the cubes into tiny pieces which was kind of a pain. And even then the fish didn't seem to interested for some reason. I have used the flake verion and the fish love it. But I didn't have the same results with the cubes.

I didn't like the fact that the cubes don't break down on there own no matter how long the sit in water. You have to cut them into tiny pieces basically.
