The Work Horse
| Installation and Operation |
Installation and implementation of this product is a breeze. The instructions and detailed, however, somewhat unneeded for this simplistic design. This filter system does not require much maintenance other thank occasional cleanings of salt creep or other crude build-up. Uses Rite-Size filter cartridges that tank no more than a few seconds to replace.
|
| Performance vs. Expectations |
I think this filter is a work horse. I used it on both a African Cichlid tank and my Saltwater tank for outstanding water clarification. Works well for tanks up to 55 gallons (although I'd recommend 2 units for this size). Has run 24/7 for well over a year, going on 2.
|
| Value for money |
I think that these units are well worth the money you pay for them. They're quiet, efficient, and provide nice surface agitation of the water. If you forget to change the filter cartridges, the flow is diverted back to the tank with no over-flow issues.

Nothing come to mind outside of replacing cartridges, which you do for any HOB filter...

OK Filter
| Installation and Operation |
Very easy to install.
Requires very little maintenance besides changing the carbon filter pads.
Great instructions evern though they are not needed. It is that easy to get setup.
|
| Performance vs. Expectations |
Definately performed as advertised. Does really well at keeping the water quality high.
|
| Value for money |
Depends on where you get it from it is worth the money.
|
| Customer Support |
Never had to deal with the company. Never had any problems with it.
|
| Liked about it |
Love the amount of flow it puts out and the easy filter changing.
|
| Didn't like |
It was pretty loud when it was running. It also caused a lot of micro bubbles in my reef tank.

Overall good value for simple viltration needs
| Installation and Operation |
Easy to install, even for the non-mechanically inclined. Comes with good instructions, no one should have any issues getting it to work. I had it up and running within 15 minutes of opening the box.
|
| Performance vs. Expectations |
Overall performance is really good. I am currently using this to over-filter a 20G quarantine tank and it keeps it extremely nice and clean. It also provides nice surface agitation as well as flow in the tank. I haven't had any issues.
|
| Value for money |
I don't think you can beat it for the money. I had this previously running on a 40G tank as well and it was just fine. For less than $100 I don't think it gets much better.

Nice filter
| General |
I put one of these filters on my quarantine tank. Nice unit. It is a little loud in my opinion. In a fresh water application the bio wheels are a nice addition. Easy as can be to set up and use. |

Best HOB Filter
| General |
I would first recommend that you use a sump and then a wet/dry and then the HOB. It is what I started my first tank and it ran for well over a year. The reason that I gave it a 2 for "Would condider buying again" is that I will always use sumps from now on. |
