Works Great Except
| General |
I've had several of these pumps through out the years and for the most part a great filter. Really the only problems Ive ever had with them are the rubber wash does need to be replaced every cpl of yrs(no big deal). The thing I disliked the most about these filters was trying to get them to re prime every time you change the carbon cartridge. I would have to set on the floor and turn the thing upside down and back several times to get it to prime. |

Great Filter
| General |
I used this filter for my first fish only setup and it worked great. I love the versitility in the chamber system. This allows you to customize the filter to run any type of chemical media you want. I have also found use for this filter on my reef setup. It alternate running actived carbon to polish my water as well as PO4 media for the times that the PO4 may be rising. This filter is quiet, easy to clean and reliable. |

Solid unit - Great for beginers
| General |
I upgraded my original Fluval cannister with this upgraded unit when it first came out and it was much improved. I like the media compartments and you can get the Fluval media just about anywhere. Bigger is definetly better with cannister filters. The older units were impossible to get started but this one was a breeze and the locking feature on the hoses and quick disconnect is a great idea and it works. I worry about the plastic componenets / valve handles. You have to stay on top of this unit and clean it every two weeks or you will have water chemistry problems. Works great for smaller tanks and should not be primary filter for Reef. This is a great secondary unit for a tank with large fish. I would suggest the newer / larger FX models, they have more surface area for media. This is a great started unit and I had my first one for over 13 years. Cannisters require regular maintenance and care. The Fluval is a classic and I loved mine until I upgraded to a sump and protein skimmer. You cannot compare the both but it does its job. |

Durable Filter
| General |
A great filter for Fish-Only tank. But not necessarily for Reef tank. If you are busy and don't have lots of time to clean it regularly, i suggest you not to get one, and Invest in a better skimmer and liverocks. |

A nice looking filter. Can handle up to 125gL of saltwater. Easy to install and remove for maintaince, which is a very important deal for canister filter because it requires constant cleaning other wise it will produce nitrate. Operates quitely. Very durable, i have this 405 since my first FOWLR tank which was 3 years ago and it's still running well. With the proper use with other filter medias, you will notice the difference in your water.

Canister filter requires too much maintaince for me. You need to clean it every other days or you would have nitrate issue in your tank. And plus, for a reef rank, a good skimmer and lots of live rock is enough for your filter.
