Workhorse HoB Filter

To be honest, I've never read the instructions on how to install one of these. It's pretty Barney-style simple, just put the intake together, slap it on, put the media in and get going. One important thing to remember is to prime the pump by filling the filter with water before plugging it in.

| Performance vs. Expectations |
The filter works as expected. Mine has been running on its current tank for 4 years now, and came from another thank that ran for a couple years before it. The only thing I would be cautious of is actually trying to filter a 50gal tank with one of these filters. Manufacturers are notorious for over-rating their equipment. Mine had filtered a 29gal tank and is now on a 10gal specimen tank.

I purchased this years ago and have not had to replace it. It's value increases each year it continues to run. I will certainly buy another if/when my current one goes out because of the value for the money of this piece.

Great hang on the back filter

This is a easy filter to put together and cleaning it is even easyer everything comes out easy and all of the parts you can get to you should clean this filter about every month or two

This filter is great way better than all of the filters with just the carbon when you change the carbon on the aqua clear the chemistry doesnt all get messsed

i likes that there was a 3 stage filtration sytem and that when you took out the carbon it didnt mess up the chemistry in your tank

Great HOB
| Installation and Operation |
Very easy and straight forward to install. Took all of about 5min before it was running. Just hang add media and plug in. Very easy to operate. Maintance takes abotu 5min a week. Just pull the media out and rinse it. Sometime sand and debris collects on the pump side which means you have to remove the unit and rinse in the sink. Still only takes 10min tops. The "Flow control" seems useless since it doesn't really change the flow.

I assume since it does a great job. I got this unit free so I never researched it or the manufacture. It is a little loud with the lid on it so I run it without the lid and you can't even hear it.

Aqua Clear 200
| Installation and Operation |
Very easy to install and works great. Requires very little maintenance and it takes a long time for flow rate to become to slow despite how well it traps debris. It does require some unclogging of the motor every 2 months or so, but the motor is very easily accessed.

This performs exactly as advertised however media does not to be replaced as often as the manufacturer states.

It is one of the more expensive HOB filters but it is definitly worth it. The filter media is excellent and I use it in other filters that I have. I've used one filter for over 8 years now.

Worth the money

Very easy to install and only needs maintenance every couple of weeks just cleaning the filter pad.

I LOVE these filters!

You can't ever have enough Aquaclears - they're always coming in useful for something! |
| Liked about it |
Aquaclears are great hang-on-back filters. They don't clog as badly as cartridge-style filters, and I find that they put out great flow. Also, I like the flexibility they offer with the three-stage media - you can easily put in a bag or whatever media you want.
