A must if you plan on keeping freshwater shrimp
Installation and Operation
This is a very simple product and it is easy to install and use, and easy to maintain as well.

Performance vs. Expectations
This product is air-driven but does not come with a pump. I recommend a slightly larger air pump than the one they recommend and putting an adjustment valve on the air hose so you can tweak it to exactly where you want it.
This is by no means a power filter and won't pull out the particulates but it does provide very good biological filtration. I've not used this in a marine environment though I have read of it being used for dwarf seahorse tank. I used it for breeding cherry shrimp (Neocaridina denticulata sinensis) since the young can get sucked up into a power filter and killed. I would replace the sponge every so often when the detritus would be really deep in the sponge, it was easy to tell when this was necessary. Depending on the bio-load of the tank you use it in you may never consider doing this, as a simple rinsing is usually enough.

Value for money
Because this product is so simple (you could make one yourself) and because it doesn't come with an air pump, I would say it is about $5 more expensive than it should be. However, since it works, I don't think an aquarist would regret the purchase.

Performance vs. Expectations
I usually put the sponge in my sump for a couple weeks to seed the bacteria colonies before use. Works great while acclimating your new addition by breaking down ammonia and other waste products. It has a weighted base to keep it from drifting. Requires a power head for operation. Good for up to 40 gallons. I used this type of filter many times in a quarantine environment.
