I like this carbon for intermittent use. I've had this stuff on hand for a while, having bought it in a large quantity during a group buy in the past. If kept well sealed, it does last unused indefinitely. This product is good for any time you want a little extra filtration, either due to a long time since the last maintenance, your dosing medication or other intermittent supplement, or some other chemicals are leaching into your system (I've had this occur during times when I'm painting in the home, and the carbon helps keep the skimmer under control and gives me a bit more piece of mind).

This product is well packaged and relatively easy to use. I do recommend rinsing this product before use (as instructed), which I do with just tap water. It rinses pretty quickly and doesnt leave much residue behind after use. I've always used it in a media reactor to force water through the carbon. I've found it works well at clearing the water of impurities, and it also helps with making the water a bit clearly (in my experience, from both eliminating particles floating in the water column as well as removing yellowing impurities).

About the only real negative of this is that this is not a large container, so if you use this regularly it will be gone soon. It could be cost prohibitive if used in large quantities or simply on large systems. If you can find it in larger quantities, I'd highly recommend getting it and keeping some on hand for those contingency scenarios.

A good choice for Carbon

Honestly I have tried many different carbons and they have been all alike at least I have not seen any difference in them
Marineland black diamond fits into that category too. It is cheap and available from just about anywhere. Carbon is so versatile. You can just dump it in a bag and throw it in your sump and it works. or to get a little more effectiveness from it run it in a reactor. You have to be careful with it in a reactor because it can easily get pulverized into dust. carbon is essential for most aquariums. Fro one it clarifies the water and absorbs toxins.
I did like this products and it worked very well for me. Keeping SPS and leather in the same tank it is essential for me to run carbon in high quantity. I have found that for me I now bulk in bulk and use about a gallon every few months.

Pretty good quality for the price.

This carbon performs a bit better then the cheaper brands. It will polish the water to some degree but not as much as the more expensive stuff. I buy it cause you can find it just about anywhere and the it has less dust then a lot of the bargain brands. I only use this in my oscar tanks because they are messy eaters and can quickly destroy you water quality. You still need to clean it a good bit before you add it to the tank but like I mentioned earlier it is better then the store brands.

Black Diamond

Good mid grade carbon. Keeps the water polished and free from odors. I have used it for years in fresh water and reef tanks. I always have a container on hand.

Fair value carbon

This has helped my water quality to some degree. I was not using carbon for awhile and decided to start again to see if there was a difference. My water is somewhat clearer at this time.

A good mid grade carbon

A good midgrade carbon that is often the best choice available on many websites and local fish stores. I have always had some on hand to use for the last 8 or so years. |
