I've never had a problem with phosphates in my tanks so up until recently I never ran a reactor or used any product designed to reduce them. That all changed when I got my valentini puffer.
I did a lot of research, talked to a lot of people, and asked a lot of questions. I knew a phosphate reactor wasn't right for my needs so I needed something else. What my research lead me to was Chemi-pure Elite. It took 48 hours and the effects of the extra phosphate in my tank were gone. Not only that but the water itself was clearer than it had been even before the introduction of the puffer.
The product claims to last for six months but I think this really depends on the tank you put it in. I wouldn't hang my hat on that number.
Each jar has the product already in a nice nylon bag which, after rinsing, simply drops into an area of flow. The aforementioned rinsing is very important, do not skip this step as there is a lot to be rinsed off that would otherwise end up in your tank.
I do think Chemi-pure elite is too costly for a long term solution. I got it for a temporary fix while I was modifying my tank. I created an area for macro-algae and that is what now takes care of the extra phosphate. For long term use I would suggest an actual reactor, which is what I plan on installing soon on my larger tank. For a solution while you work on tank issues this is a good product though.

A great for passive water clarification.

This is a great products for many reef aquarium. This product works well especially on mixed reefs where chemical warfare may be a issue. It is identical to the Chemi-Pure Elite but without the granular ferric oxide. GFO is a Phosphate binding agent. Phosphates are a main source of nuisance algae in many reef aquariums. I personally used this product for about 2 years on my 75 gallon mixed reef. It worked great I never had nuisance algae issues. Crystal clear water and very happy fish and corals. Once I began collecting more SPS corals I found that this product was just not powerful enough to keep my system clean enough for many SPS corals. At that point I went to a separate GFO and carbon reactors.
While using this product I especially love how long it lasted in the aquarium. Although it was rated to stay in for up to 6 months I usually replaced it after 4 months or so. It comes with a floss filter bag. Just rinse the media and place it in a high flow area of your sump and it will do all the rest of the work!

Worth the money

This stuff is top notch all around. Boyd took 3 great absorbments and put them all in one tough filter bag you cant rip this thing. With that being said you can make your own chemi pure. Use a reef grade carbone, seachem purigen in a seperate bag this stuff lasts for months and it can be reactivated, and gfo in another bag.

1 If you dont use this stuff early on and you let your po4 build up the gfo in the bag will fill up in just a few weeks and at 15.00 a bag that a lot to throw away when the other two absorbent are still good to go for a couple of months yet.

I always wonderd how to get crystal clear water like I see in many pictures of other tanks. Chemi-Pure is the answer. I have a 55 gal and I dropped to bags in the sump and presto crystal clear water.

Best product period
| General |
Immediate results. If you want crystal clear non-odor clean water than this is your product. I have tried over a dozen different carbon products and this by far is the absolute best. it claims that you will not have to conduct regular water changes if you use the product, I tested the theory and I would not reccomend you skip the changes. product says last 6 months, not in my experience. You will get a good solid 2 1/2-3 months if you are lucky. I run two 10z units in my sump and it keeps the odor out and my fish seem happier when I put a fresh bag in. My chemical values are in check with the Chemipure. I absolutely would reccomend this to everyone. Shop around as the price ranges from $5 to $21 for the 10z tub. Great product, great price and it is readily available. Easy to use since it comes in a fine mesh bag. Rinse it very well and handle with care. |
