Blue Life Filter Sock (200 Micron) A must have
Comments
I built my own sump and though for a long time about how I was going to trap the detritus from the tank that went through the overflow. I decided to go with a filter sock design. These things are great they work wonderful at trapping the detritus for my tank they are replaced every three days. that is usually when they begin to overflow.
Cleaning: this is one of the best parts I throw them in the washing machine with a small amount of Oxyclean.
Durability: my tank has been in operation for nine months during this time I rotate two filters through the tank when one gets dirty then a new one goes in and the old one is washed. after nine months they are just now starting to show some thread baron spots like a worn pair of old socks.
Flow: there seems to be great flow of water through the filter and for my tank it will over flow around day three. I would estimate that I have about 800 gallons per hour through the sock.

Bad experience, won't use again
Comments
We were using these filter socks in our sump when we first set up our tank. we had two, one for each overflow. One of the socks created a lot of foam in the sump and we never figured out how to stop it from happening. The problem was that the foam that the sock created was similar to that of a protein skimmer and it kept coming and eventually spilled over the op of the sump. I am not sure how long it foamed over for, but one morning I woke up to a very wet floor (and an unhappy wife). I won't know till we move whether or not this has caused problems under the stand/carpet, but this has definitely moved me away from using filter socks in m sump.

Did help with the small particles in the water and to reduce the amount of micro bubbles coming from my refugium.
Fairly easy to clean

Created foam in my sump which overflowed about 5-10 gallons out of the sump in about a 24 hr period.

Clears up your water in no time!
Comments
Picked up two of these for my new sump setup. Coupled with my Vertex IN-80 skimmer, the micron sock turned my water crystal clear! However the downside to this extreme filtration is that they clog easily and need to be change at least once or more a week depending on your flow rate. Also this micron sock is great at preventing micro bubbles from entering your sump.

Grat means of removing fine particles...
Comments
Blue Life filter socks are a great tool for removing unwanted fine particles from the water column. They are fairly easy to install over the outputs of your overflows, but they do require frequent cleaning/changing out. It's bees to have a couple sets so that one can be cleaned out and allowed to dry while the other is on the tank.

Be ready to replace them
General
These are great for filter media but they do get dirty quick. They really cannot be cleaned so be prepared to replace them from time to time. They do work be advised they catch everything so if they are at the end of your sump and a fish decides to take a ride he may not be alive when you finally check the filter. |
