In terms of how it looks, this is one of the better fake decorations. So if you like fake decorations you would probably be interested in this one. However, I can't recommend it because it collects detritus. Each little barnacle is basically a little toilet for hermit crabs or a place for uneaten food to collect. This adds nitrates to the water which causes quality issues with the tank and can endanger livestock.
A friend of mine who I help out with his tanks, had a water quality issue that I just couldn't figure out. I did everything that I could think of and nothing worked. I finally decided to replace the gravel in the tank, because sometimes that turns out to the be the problem. To begin the process I reached in and grabbed his fake barnacles (a little different than the ones pictured) and the minute they hit the surface of the water I knew they were the problem because they smelled rotten. I had a similar experience with my freshwater tanks and a fake log which I shared with my friend and he decided to just ditch the thing.
I simply can't recommend fake decorations. As a general rule I say try and find something real to put in the tank.

As Good As The Real Thing!

This is the only artificial coral I would put in my tank. For me its the only one that doesnt look artificial. The shape the color the sizing everything is right on traget. Ive had mine for a cpl of yrs now and my starry blennie loves it actually its her home. If you want to add a artificial coral to your tank that looks as good as the real thing this is the coral for you. |
