Coral for experts for a reason
| Comments |
This is a beautiful coral and immediately attracts the eye. However, it is a very low light coral, in the wild living in caves, often upside down. It can live in caves because it is not zooxanthellate and requires no light at all to live. This is where the the keeping of this coral becomes difficult. It requires the type of food that filter feeders require, which is not itself a problem, such food is easy to come by. The difficult thing is that it requires this food almost constantly. While you could easily keep the particulate levels high enough, to keep the coral alive, the problem is balancing this corals needs with the rest of the tank. That much food in a tank makes it difficult at best to keep SPS and to keep algae levels down.
So, it isn't so much that this coral is hard to keep, meaning it isn't that this isn't a hardy coral, it's just that it must be fed and fed and this can cause problems in your tank that can be very difficult to control.

Easier than you think.

if you can keep the tank cooler it likes cooler water. keep it low in the tank with medium to high current and it will do very well. also food like marine snow can be sprayed on it occasionally to help growth of the coral

NOT a coral for beginners
| General |
This coral species is very pretty but extremely difficult to keep with any long term success. If you do decide to try and keep one, make sure you do your research on diet, lighting requirements, placement, current, etc. |

Careful!

The coloration of this coral is amazing! I found one at my LFS and wanted to try to my hand at it. This coral died quick i tried all sorts of placements and lighting conditions but it was gone in a month and never looked good from the second day i dropped it in. If you can keep it alive it is one of the best coral out there IMO but DIFFICULT... |
