One of my favorite mushrooms, the green is so bright featured

Comments In my experience these do not like overly bright lighting but can still do well slightly higher in the tank.

I've lost mushroom corals to exposing them to too much light, this is something you do have to be careful about. They are hardy, but once the problem starts they seem to go quickly and not recover very well. The best bet is to start them out low in the tank and slowly move them up over the course of weeks to see what they can take.

This is a very attractive coral and I find it propagates in my tank quickly. I started with just one and now have about a dozen or so.

This is an easy coral to keep with very little required in its care. They don't need to be fed, but will catch what they can of the food you drop in the tank. Mine will even grab onto flake food as well as brine shrimp.

The aquarist must be careful not to place in too bright of light as mushrooms do not like bright light. I would put them in the moderate light category.

Mushrooms do not like heavy flow but also do not do well with too little. As they are disk shaped they can collect detritus, so provide just enough flow to keep them clear of this but not so much that they produce an excess of mucus.

Care is essentially the same between the various color morphs, with some morphs requiring more or less light. In my experience my red mushrooms like less light and do better nearer the bottom of the tank, the blue like more and do better toward the middle. There are very few mushrooms I would put near the top.

These corals propagate themselves quite readily in the aquarium. You will notice a second mouth appear on the coral and shortly afterward the coral divides in half to form two corals (longitudinal fission) but also reproduce by budding.

Mushrooms are not aggressive corals and seem to be able to grow right next to zoanthus and protopalythoa (button polyps).

Liked about it 1. Colorful
2. Hardy
3. Reproduces readily

Didn't like 1. Difficult to mount loose heads sometimes as they slime up when pulled from the water.

Great Beginner Coral

Comments I acquired a metallic green mushroom when I purchased an entire system from a buddy getting out of the hobby. I didn't even know that the mushroom was in the garage, on the live rock I was cooking. The mushroom lived for 2 weeks, in the Houston heat, before I finally saw it. A very hardy species!

Liked about it 1) Very large and brilliantly colored, 2) My lawn mower blenny loves resting on top of them, 3) they split quickly but are very easy to frag if you don't want to many of them, 4) Hardy, 5) Req's virtually no care or intense lighting

Didn't like 1) Take up a lot of real estate, 2) that's really all I can think of as I really do like them a lot

Great coral

Comments These corals never close up even at night so you can enjoy their awsome glowing colors even at night. These shrooms glow brighter than the nightlights themselves!

Liked about it These reproduce pretty fast without causing major problems in the tank, glow like flashlights under actinic lighting, and are a very hardy coral which makes them a great candidate for a first coral.

Didn't like Not very pretty under 10,000k bulbs, just plain green, they never get that big before they split and mine suddenly shriveled away for no reason.
