A great beginner coral that comes in a bunch of different colors
Comments
This is an easy coral to keep with very little required in its care. They don't need to be fed, but will catch what they can of the food you drop in the tank. Mine will even grab onto flake food as well as brine shrimp.
The aquarist must be careful not to place in too bright of light as mushrooms do not like bright light. I would put them in the moderate light category.
Mushrooms do not like heavy flow but also do not do well with too little. As they are disk shaped they can collect detritus, so provide just enough flow to keep them clear of this but not so much that they produce an excess of mucus.
Care is essentially the same between the various color morphs, with some morphs requiring more or less light. In my experience my red mushrooms like less light and do better nearer the bottom of the tank, the blue like more and do better toward the middle. There are very few mushrooms I would put near the top.
These corals propagate themselves quite readily in the aquarium. You will notice a second mouth appear on the coral and shortly afterward the coral divides in half to form two corals (longitudinal fission) but also reproduce by budding.
Mushrooms are not aggressive corals and seem to be able to grow right next to zoanthus and protopalythoa (button polyps).

Liked about it
1. Colorful
2. Hardy
3. Reproduces readily
|
Didn't like
1. Difficult to mount loose heads sometimes as they slime up when pulled from the water.

One of the Best
Comments
Nothing tops a mushroom color. Easy, cheap and beautiful. These are one of the most easy to care for corals and are also one of the most cheap. They are absolutely stunning and with their diverse colors, anybody can find what they are looking for. from unique blue/green patterns to bright blue, these are the best. They don't need to be fed, but will catch bits of food floating in the water column. They require little light and do not need heavy flow. Also, many organisms find them un-appetizing to eat and are avoided by pretty much everything else in the aquarium. They reproduce easily and are non-aggressive, so people should not have to worry about placing them near other corals.

A good starter coral
Comments
The mushroom coral was my first coral that was given to me. At first, I thought that it would be one of the hardest corals to take care of. But after a 1 week, I found out that these corals were actually one of the most easiest corals to take care of. They don't need super strong lighting, and they also don't need have strong flow. My mushrooms also divided up several times, a really nice thing to look at in a discosoma mushroom.

Liked about it
1. Really nice looking
2. A very hardy coral
3. Easy to keep and doesn't eat a lot.
4. Doesn't require much flow
5. Doesn't need much light.

Didn't like
1. Sometimes they squirt out their white insides which make them look very ugly
2. They aren't the nicest looking corals out there

Great coral especially for beginners
Comments
These are very easy to care for. not very aggressive at all. grow and split pretty fast given the right conditions. i have noticed that the larger the mushroom the more active it seems to be, but not alot of movement they provide more color and texture. no tank requirements and i feed my larger shrooms brine and a phyto supplement.
|
Liked about it
i lie the colors that mushrooms come in. As well as the different textures that can be found. pretty easy to frag. and on large shroom can make 5 total frags if correctly done.

they are very slimy which makes fragging a little difficult.

Easy care coral
Comments
Mushrooms are great for begginers they require little care. Be sure tp place them in a spot where they get low to moderate lighting and a low flow. Mushrooms will shrivel up quite a bit at night and open fully within a few hours of the lights being on. They dont require feeding, they will catch extra food on their own. I wouldnt place these corals too close to other specimens because they may sting or quickly over grow the other coral. I find that mushrooms like a little more nutrient rich water with nitrates being around 10ppm. They come in many different colors from blue to purple to green. They also have iteresting patterns including stripes and spots. This coral also propogates very quickly.

Easy on the wallet
Comments
This coral is easily cared for. This makes for a great beginner coral that will add instant color to any tank. Very gentle and will eat a variety of food from flakes to frozen. Other than placing it in the tank little has to be done after that. Will need to be placed in a low flow section of the tank otherwise it stays shrunken up.

Liked about it
This coral is almost a must for any beginner. They are pretty cheap. They are hardy giving the beginner a chance to get their water parameters in order. They grow and multiply pretty fast. They give nice rock coverage and instant color to your tank. This mushroom comes in a variety of colors. If you are doing a softy tank, it don't get much softer than mushrooms.

Great coral for folks new to the hobby
Comments
A hardy coral that can thrive in many conditions, mushrooms are a great starter coral for folks new to the hobby. It is seldom aggressive, can grow very quickly with adequate lighting and proper water conditions, and will coexist with almost anything. No supplemental feeding is necessary, would recommend for anyone wanting to get their feet wet with corals.

Great coral and easy to care for
Comments
This coral is a great beginner coral for one. They come in many different colors and sizes and will tolerate a wider range of water quality than alot of corals. They don't require much lighting. They like lower flow so they're better to keep near the bottom of the tank. They are not very agressive that I have seen and they reproduce on their own by moving and leaving parts of their foot behind that grow into a new animal.

Very easy!
Comments
This coral, in my opinion, is probably one of the easiset coral to keep in a reef tank. They come in nice colors and explode in size when the right conditions are met. I've had one in my tank for about 4 months now and its more than doubled in size. They don't require much light at all and can be placed anywhere in the tank. They do not need to be fed (I've never feed mine directly). The only problem I can see with these mushrooms is that if you don't buy one that's already attached to something they can be a pain to get them to attach as sometimes even when glued they still slip off and just float around but they will only do that when they are unhappy. Most people either glue them and attach to live rock or put in a small container inside the tank with some rubble and let them attach themselves. Usually within 3-4 days they will attach and stay there.

Great starter coral...

Mushroom corals are fairly easy to keep and don't require elevated levels of lighting. They grow quickly and will reproduce by spiting when water quality is good. They can be difficult to attach to a rock if they are not already on one, so care should be exercised to prevent them from getting into pumps or power heads.

Thoughts on Mushroom coral(anemone)

Great beginner coral...actually it was my first coral paid 5.00 for a frag. Mushrooms are a very easy to frag coral. Just need a sharp object and cust it like one would a pizza. Coral is photosynthetic meaning it only needs light to live. They will move in the form of crawling(very slowly) and completely detaching from a rock. |

Great First Coral
General
These are great started corals, they do not have great demands and can easily be propagated through cuttings. They will give someone and try at corals to see if they are up to the task. They aren't the most expensive coral and you can find frags real cheap. If your thinking of getting coral for the first time this is a good starter point and many advanced reefers still keep them. |
