Hard to find color morph of an easy to keep coral featured

Comments This isn't a particularly easy color morph to come across and because of that can be pretty costly, especially for a mushroom coral. However, it's very attractive and grows well so you get our money's worth.

This is an easy coral to keep with very little required in its care. They don't need to be fed, but will catch what they can of the food you drop in the tank. Mine will even grab onto flake food as well as brine shrimp.

The aquarist must be careful not to place in too bright of light as mushrooms do not like bright light. I would put them in the moderate light category.

Mushrooms do not like heavy flow but also do not do well with too little. As they are disk shaped they can collect detritus, so provide just enough flow to keep them clear of this but not so much that they produce an excess of mucus.

Care is essentially the same between the various color morphs, with some morphs requiring more or less light. In my experience my red mushrooms like less light and do better nearer the bottom of the tank, the blue like more and do better toward the middle. There are very few mushrooms I would put near the top.

These corals propagate themselves quite readily in the aquarium. You will notice a second mouth appear on the coral and shortly afterward the coral divides in half to form two corals (longitudinal fission) but also reproduce by budding.

Mushrooms are not aggressive corals and seem to be able to grow right next to zoanthus and protopalythoa (button polyps).

Liked about it 1. Colorful
2. Hardy
3. Reproduces readily

Didn't like 1. Difficult to mount loose heads sometimes as they slime up when pulled from the water.

Beautiful Mushroom that will add some great color to the tank.

Comments Just like the title says, beautiful and colorful. I have had great success with them when I had them in my tank. The grow fairly fast and when I added them to the tank I decided to supplement their diet with trace elements. They did not seem too aggressive at first. When they settled in I did have to relocate them to another area of the tank. With them being in a nano tank you don't have a lot of wiggle room. not very active at all besides opening and closing with the light cycle. I finally sold them to a buddy that just had to have them. He promised me some frags and when I get a bigger tank I will take him up on it. I personally think this is another candidate for a larger tank or I would keep these by themselves. Very eye catching and a great addition to a mature tank.

Liked about it The color is amazing and they seem to be kind of rare or less seen. It is usually the first thing people mentioned when it was in the tank. Pretty tolerant of water conditions and lighting but you could always tell it your water was going south cause they would be the first to let you know. Easy to frag as well but I was very careful with them since they are pricey.

Didn't like Hard to find. I got lucky at the LFS one day. I found a couple of places online that had them but the price was not worth it. Pretty expensive. I live near Atlanta and I payed almost sixty bucks for one mushroom. They were a bit aggressive.
