good chiller, but a costly investment featured

Installation and Operation This is a pretty stout chiller, it works well and the one I've had has been in use for well over 4 years with no issues. This product comes well packaged and has a number of different diameter hose bib attachments to make connections for your application. For the size of the chiller, it would work well on aquariums under around 100 gallons. In my experience, anything over that size is going to probably put this unit through a lot of use, but it wouldnt be out of the question on a tank as large as about 180 gallons (total system volume).

Performance vs. Expectations It's a good chiller line, and I've been pretty pleased with it's performance. It's relatively quiet, and it cools water very well. I've been completely satisfied with the unit's performance.

Value for money Generically speaking, and even though I own one, I find chillers to be an unnecessary expense for most folks. If you can find another way to cool your tank, I suggest you pursue it. However, if you've exhausted all other avenues, this is a quality product that should provide years of repair free service.

Liked about it The instructions are clear on the device, and it's attractive enough to sit next to an aquarium without being a distraction. Operating it is easy, and the device controls are very simple and laid out well. It does run relatively quietly, but for a chiller this size you're not going to find one that's silent. I've used the 1/4 hp version of this chiller in living space, and I personally found it to be too loud for me to be comfortable with. This unit is a bit quieter in my experience, but still probably something that you're not going to want in your living room. The point is, compared to other chillers, this is a quiet unit. This unit has worked flawlessly for me, and I currently have it in-line with my return pump for contingency operations (I don't use it regularly, but every time it needs to come on it fires right up).

Didn't like Two thoughts on this unit that drop into the negative column. First, this unit is expensive. Considering the technology for producing refrigerators and other cooling devices, I find it hard to believe that chiller manufacturers are unable to make less expensive and more quiet chillers, but alas, I've not yet found one. So unless you've absolutely exhausted other resources, I wouldnt recommed a chiller. Try using fans and other means of active cooling before investing in a chiller. And second, this device has controls that are opposite of the exhaust fans, but it recommends not placing the exhaust fan facing a wall. Operationally, this generally implies that the controls have to face a wall, which makes the temperature display hard if not impossible to read. I'd recommend a design change to stick the temp controls on the same or at least on the side of the exhaust fans in lieu of opposite them.
