Terrific chiller as far as I can tell
| Installation and Operation |
This is the first and only chiller I have bought so far. I bought this chiller over 5 years ago for a 72 gal tank, Installation was quite simple. I placed the unit under the tank and ran tubing to the sump, connected a 600 gallons per minute pump to the inlet, and plugged it in. Then tilted it to help purge the air out. I mounted a RANCO temp controller inside the cabinet. The chiller directions recommended to place the temp sensor probe in the therm o-well provided inside the chiller. I noticed the therm o-well was a bad place to put the sensor. What happens is the therm-o-well doesn't contact the sensor probe adequately and causes the sensor to have a higher temp (due to the higher operating ambient temp surrounding the therm-o-well) than the liquid it's sensing. I apparently easily corrected the condition by placing the sensor directly in the water in the return skimmer.

| Performance vs. Expectations |
Unit has operated without any problems and performs great. I just hooked it up to a 150 gal tank and the temp dropped from 83.3 deg. to 82.3 deg. in 40 min. with a room ambient temp of 81 deg.

The directions recommend to flush the unit once a year I think I did that twice so far not including the flush I just did. Seems like I got away with that, unless there is a build-up inside the coil I can't see but it brings 150 gals. Down from 83.3 to 82.3 deg. in 40 min. so I feel there is good heat exchange.

Could be a more quiet but It's quiet enough not to be any kind of deal killer.

This is a great chiller. I have been running it now for over 8mo and have no issues. It is quite, reliable, and has a nice black metal casing that protects it from damage. When running it sounds only as loud as a small dorm refrigerator. It was easy to set-up and the display is easy to read and to program the desired temperature. Highly recommended!!!
