Room for improvement... featured

Installation and Operation This unit as with most reactors is very simple to install. In fact there really is not installation required. Connect a feed pump, add media and Co2. That's about all you need to do to get thin unit up in running. But there is much more involved in running a reactor than just hooking it up. without getting in to details do plenty of research about how reactors work and whats required to "dial" them in.

For a feed pump for this reactor I chose a MaxiJet 1200. Using a PEX speed fitting 1/2" to 1/4" reducer it's simple to just connect the feed pump right to the reactor using 1/4" nylon tube.

This unit comes with a PH probe port which is great! I would suggest no one runs a reactor without a PH controller or at least a monitor.

This unit also cane installed with 1/4" speed fitting which is great they are so much easier to use.
The included bubble counter is also great. With a PH controller they really are not needed but helps with adjusting the reactor.

This reactor has a screw in lid. Not very convenient, you have to disconnect and plumbing and PH probe from the lid to add more media. That's not really a bug deal since you will only add media about one a year or maybe 9 months at the most.

Lastly the pump it comes with a Octopus OTP-2000 turbine pump. This is the same pumps used on their skimmer. Not the greatest pump and I actually had to replace mine this month. It just stopped working.

All in all a decent low cost mid quality reactor. If your looking to save a few bucks look into the CR-140.
I run it on a 125 with heavy SPS. It does a great job keeping up with my Alk needs.

Performance vs. Expectations Honestly Coralvue it not really know for it's quality but I was pleasantly surprised with this reactor. Simple to use and setup. Does a good job and performs better than expected.
But there are a few things I would change.

The pump, the OTP-2000 is not a good pump and is prone to failure as I have found within it's first year.
The connection for the pump it permanently fixed. That means you cannot change the pump to a different brand. This pump also transfers a lot of heat. The flow is so slow that there is no issue with the heat getting to your tank but the reactor runs pretty hot.
There us no needle valve for effluent control. I immediately added a prevision PVC valve
The water inlet is too low. Is you ever need to un hook the pump or your feed pump fails the reactor could drain back in to the aquarium dumping 1/2 it's contents into your tank. That could be very bad. Install a check valve at the inlet.

Value for money Ar about $200 for the base unit this is a cheaper product than most similar sized reactors. But after all the extras you need to make it efficient and safe you may want to look some other manufactures.

Customer Support I had the pump fitting break off on this unit and email CoralVue 3 times before I got a response. It took 3 more email to get the guy to understand what part broke only after sending him a picture. I was told that par was not available and I could not even send it in for repair. Being a machinist I made the part from acrylic rod and used Weld-On and fixed it myself.

Liked about it This unit has a small footprint but is a little tall at about 24"
Includes a bubble counter
The pump to reactor plumbing is rigid PVC no tubing and clamps in it which makes it look much cleaner.

Didn't like No needle valve comes with this unit.
No check valve in the inlet, could cause problems if the feed pump fail or in a power outage.
Screw on lid means you have to remove all plumbing to fill
The Pump. It needs a better pump. It also transfers a lot of heat to the water.

Awesome reactor! featured

Installation and Operation Installation isn't too difficult, but the instructions are horrible. The reactor is solid, but unless you know what your doing, its very difficult to figure out on your own. It's not really a plug and play item, you have to know how to operate your CO2 valves and your effluent rates for this device to work properly. Instructions were completely useless in dialing in the reactor and I had to refer to friends.

Performance vs. Expectations Performance is awesome! The recirculating feature really conserves the amount of CO2 used, and it cuts costs in the long run. The build is nice and solid, except the top. I blew the top off because I had no idea what I was doing. It was easily glued back on with Weldon and poses no problems to date.

Value for money For the money you can't get a better reactor. Calcium reactors are pricey, but for good reason. The money you save in the long run by using one is exponential and should be thoroughly thought through before turning your nose on this pricey equipment.

Customer Support Customer support was okay.....I got a simple yes or no answer when I asked about the top being okay with just weldon or if they could fix it. All encounters with coralvue have been mediocre in the customer service range, probably because im in the customer service industry, I expect more.

Liked about it Compact efficient design.
Packs a punch for delivering calcium to your tank.
Set it and forget it
solid recirculation pump
PH probe compression fitting

Didn't like Top blew off like a bomb when I blew CO2 in there.
Instructions are horrible
Im not crazy about the tiny salt creep I get on the pump from time to time. I know there's a minuscule leak that's just letting the salt creep through the joints somewhere.

Octo-CR140 Reactor

General Very solid construction and performance and you cant beat the price !! It handles a heavy stocked 300gal. system with no problems.

Liked about it Super easy set-up, the screw on lid is a major plus for ease of filling and maintenace. The CO2 recirc is very effective. Very solid reactor!
